Good morning Switcher Saturday crew.  I am off to work again this morning so as we have the past couple weeks we go with the short intro.

Switcher Saturday is all about celebrating the smaller loco's that do big things.   If you have a picture,  a video, or a story to tell,  please share it here.  All scales and gauges welcome.

Passenger demand on the Plywood and Northern is down, so the docksider has been assigned to the task while the larger engines are used elsewhere.  Fortunately the mail contract is doing fine, resulting in an RPO and a single coach pulling into the platform.

It is the morning of November 17, 1947, and nearly 8,000 people came to Harrisburg and braved the frigid weather to stand in line to tour the Freedom Train.  That morning they got a special treat as the Friendship Train pulled into the Harrisburg station next to the Freedom Train.

Back in the yards a GS4 is moving three X-29 boxcars filled with food from residents of Pennsylvania out to the main to be coupled up with the Friendship Train.  These cars, along with nearly 900 such cars from across the country carrying food for the hungry in Europe, are going to New York where the contents will be shipped to France and Italy.FT-44Tonner [3)FT-44Tonner [4)FT-44Tonner [5)

The 44 Tonner is WbB and the cars are Atlas.

Tom,

Love that slug.  Did you make that yourself?

Hi Tom.

Thank you!

Yes, I just finished it. It isn’t a model of any SB slug in particular, but just trying to get the feel of one. I learned quite a bit about modeling while I built this one. I will be doing a couple more, hopefully better!

I am starting a PB&NE slug next. It will be based on a SW8 frame.

Very cool Tom.

Also, looks like the reply with quote function is back, at least on mobile

Krieglok, love your slug unit. I have built two, but not as detailed as yours.

The Santa Fe slug has front lights and coil coupler and a powered truck with center rail pickup.

Powered from the ERR DC commander in the GP7u.

Used a MTH SW8 calf frame. The slug has a ERR dummy unit for the front lights and coil coupler.

I'm working a building a 3rd slug like the  TEBC6 yard slugs built by BN railroad.

Hey Rich. Glad to see you stopped by. Looks like you've expanded a little with the shelving.

yeah, the track plan now is something like this I think, I need to bring the laptop down there and see how accurate my plan is vs. the reality.  Good to hear from you Bob, all the best...Rich

Thanks for posting that super nice video @Murnane. Always appreciate you stopping in.

I also noticed the shelving extension.   You are the second person I have seen do something like that in recent months.  That's a great way to expand and still leave lots of room for other stuff.  This fall I will probably start the finishing of my basement.   A shelf based design should allow a few trains to run while construction happens.

Wow, Dave C, and Murnane, Rich, Cool videos and thanks for posting your nice trains. One day I’ll give videoing a try. Switcher Saturday is a fun to view thread as Switchers, usually being small and will negotiate a minimum 031 Circle can allow a lot of fellows to show their layouts. Thanks for continuing this fun thread. Happy Railroading.  CBS072, very nice diesels and neat layout, Trumptrain, your layouts always fun to see., Melgar, that’s a beautiful New Haven Switcher, a very nice layout. Have a great week everyone and be smart, stay safe, stay well, work on your layouts and train projects.  Happy Railroading 4ECB8ECA-9F4F-45CD-9150-78C78BF09413E42E6454-F40D-4A18-8253-503054928B3B9A6D19E0-348F-4B58-9052-67E2EDA0AD7614046BF4-1D5E-4519-A5E0-2C6313E2F8AC
