Hi Everyone Welcome to the March 30th version of Switcher Saturday or SWSat. Rich Murnane is traveling today so I was called on to get things rolling.

Every week we post pictures of our unsung switchers both in model and prototype form so post your Critters, Yard Goats, Pinch Hitters, Shop Switchers and so on. We ask that everyone play nice, discourage trolls and we can all have a good time.

Spring is here! Come out from your modeling caves. Pull out some hidden treasure from your Mari Kondo layout clean up and share those switchers with us here.  Don't keep the goats hidden in the hump yards. I can't wait to see what you guys post.

As always don't fret if when you read this is no longer Saturday. Just hitch your post to the end of the train until next weeks SWSat rolls around.

Have a great weekend.

This week my train club is having a joint train show with NYSME/METCA in Rutherford NJ. If you are in the area come by. I think we will have the layout running at some point as well. I am sure some tempting switcher will try to follow me home.

Here is my K-line Astoria Light, Heat and Power Porter on my above the bookshelf layout. I love this little guy and hope someday these return to market.

Happy Switcher Saturday everyone.

Andy/SILVERLAKE, thank you for getting us started today.

My contribution today is from the nearby (to me) long gone Putnam Division of the New York Central Railroad.

I grew in/around the Dunwoodie section of Yonkers , NY and here is a switcher in the Conrail years heading over the Yonkers Ave. girder bridge at Dunwoodie. Passenger service ended in 1958. Sporadic freight service lasted into the 1980's. Today, while the railroad tracks are gone, the bridge still remains and is part of the rail trail system running from the Bronx to Brewster, NY.

In its early days, as the New York and Northern, this building served as a station in Getty Square (downtown Yonkers) and continued to be a station when the Getty Square branch was electrified, eventually abandoned in 1943. The building still survives today in another capacity. My wife once worked there when it was a bank.

Some lovely engines in On30, I hope you won't disagree seeing them here. They are o gauge on narrow track, in fact HO, and i found they have a very special appeal as they are highly detailed models and also a part of history of USA. They are bachmann models, the Shay loco is my prefered one....

Maybe a little big engine , the K36 from intermountain is also a great one.

Three repainted 1990's vintage Lionel industrial switchers. All of these have the circuit board removed, so that I can add more weight instead, making them much better runners. I have the option of running my layout on DC current for locomotives such as these.

The Conrail unit has a K-Line decorative horn, which come solid, so I hollowed it out with a Dremel cone-shaped grinding bit. The simplified "suggested" front / rear handrails are bent steel wire, mounted in a piece of basswood and attached to the Delrin frame with black double sided adhesive foam tape.

The Reading unit has a Lionel decorative horn in front of the smoke stack, with a smaller Lionel bell from the 4-4-2 steamers. To do the lower stripe along the side, I painted a piece of blank Microscale Film, cut with a razor blade, so I could get a nice straight line. That would be a tough spot on the engine shell to do a paint mask.

The last one I put up on one of these threads a couple weeks ago, but post it here again so one can see the difference (and the increased painting/decal options) by removing the vent detail from the long hood end. I also covered the smaller two upper cab windows on the LV one, and put a decorative horn there.

All three have actual headlights put in them as seen in the photo of the LV unit. All three were repainted with spray cans and all have Microscale HO scale decals on them.

Being I have a small layout, I'm not too bothered about not having electro-couplers or any of the other more recent features. With the added weight they easily pull a dozen train cars, and running on DC current, they do run slowly if need be for yard work.

I do have a RMC Sound Station which gives me some basic locomotive sound effects when I want, and I let my vivid imagination do the rest.

Great job on the MP-15 Johan. I'm with Brianel..., one of my favorite engines too.

Bar GP7 63,
I am not a scale 3-railer, but I have to say I am absolutely astounded and truly impressed with the modeling you did on that K-Line MP-15. That is just spectacular. I know what those locos look like as is, and for me that's acceptable.
BUT you have taken that and turned it into a piece of art! That is a true masterpiece. Great work.
