Tail End Tuesday

Here's my rear for this fine Tuesday!

Here's my latest "tail end find" on ebay:

The 6047 caboose is what would have most likely been sold in the set with the 2037 Adriatic shown. This is "Variation D" with two AAR trucks that match the tender trucks on the loco. It was the only 6047 that was so equipped on ebay at the time so I am happy I got it.

A little C&O tail end.  Although a day late and...

Bill good looking fleet of trains, since you don't have a basement think you better add on to the homestead?! LOL

Dallas- Thank you for your prayer support.  We appreciate it for certain.  Glad you got that CSX running again, like old guys (me) sometimes our old trains just need a little help getting moving .

Pretty interesting that what is in our minds doesn't seem to get as old as a few other parts we have.  ( sometimes these trains throw use a big curve to help us build character )

My Anne passed after 6 years of struggle with breast cancer and she was such a positive person through it all.    It's been almost 11 years ago now.

   I'm really glad you have the new drug to give you two some more time for hugs and kisses and beautiful mornings and resting together at night.         I went to confession with tears after Anne passed and all I could tell the priest was that I felt so bad that I didn't treat her well enough with kisses and hugs and sometimes I was busy and didn't give more of my time........................my penance was to go and get a good ice cream cone.         With my shenanigans over the years I  never had that happen before.

Yeah, Mark. I've gotten WAY over my skis on locos and rolling stock and I do like looking at everything as I run my "tail chasers." You guys all tempted me, though, so it's your fault I've got a 5' by 14' layout planned for my office room built on two 2.5' by 6' tables and two 2.5' by 8' tables. Any suggestions for base material to cover the tables with is appreciated. I've looked at some "short pile" artificial grass.

Well my train store closed about 6 years ago, but I got a lot of my trees from Scenic Express, and the different turf from clump-foliage to grass its online they use to mail out a nice booklet, think they stopped, You can also check out craft stores they have by far a better price on lichen, lichen is also found on trees that I had used, check for outside materials like soil, small rocks and anything natural. Made mountains out of a casting material don't remember brand easy to use, found that at the craft store also Wish I found this forum years ago guys use 4 x 8 installation and make terrain out of it. I'm sure more people will give advice. Looking forward for that Railroad. Good luck Mark

@Bill Swatos - Bill don't know what the consist was of the 1980 Chessie excursion ( My boys and I rode the "Chessie Steam Special twice out of Cincinatti).  But I intend to use the Chessie cars with my MPC 8008 steamer below and make up a "Chessie System train".

Hope everyone is having a great TET.                                                         Only two months beforeCHRISTMAS ....so for my tails I'm celebrating a TTTT  (  tale of a test of two trains.  )                                                                                   Lionel Polar Express  and MTH Nativity Train.

@Dallas Joseph -  Really liked the "Nativity" train, I noted the engine number under the cab window "1225" for Dec 25th really neat.  @Sitka & @trumpettrain - Great scenes and great cabooses.  Here is my contribution today.  My little Schilling toy train from 1948 is showing her "tender behind!"   I just acquired this a few days ago and I am really enjoying taking pictures of it.  

This sold for $12.95 with a circle of track and power in 1948.  I thought this inexpensive until I remembered that in another post I recently showed a Marx mechanical set from 1953 with a whistling mechanical engine, tender, 3 multi color lithograph freight cars and a figure 8 of track for  $4.98 !  So I guess this little set was not as inexpensive as I thought even back in 1948.

Here is the tender view of the loco and tender.  The set also has 2 yellow, plastic , passenger cars.  The big loop at the rear of the tender is the "automatic" coupler and the lever you see allows you to uncouple the cars.  They will couple "automatically" but you have to manually uncouple them.

Wow @Don McErlean, you slipped right in before I could take a couple of pictures, just for the record, you have a beautiful set pictured for Pennie’s on the dollar, I admit you get a lot for your modest investments. Although they are priced to buy, some little boy got a lot of valuable father son time at those early Christmas seasons, which was priceless. Wow. @Dallas Josephh, wow, that’s a beautiful polar express observation car and the folks look to be having fun, @Sitka, wow, beautiful Pennsylvania caboose at the end of a cool looking train and your layout is really nicely scenicked, @trumpettraintrumptrain, I love your B&O wood side caboose and the folks working on your nice railroad seem to always get along together, a fun bunch of hard workers, Wow, now where is @RSJB18 Bob, I know he has something that might bring up the rear, just kidding. Larry - thank you for the comment.  You're right, I admit that I like to think of the joy these little "toy" sets brought to youngsters especially at the Holiday season. Sometimes it makes me pick up some car or loco that is clearly been used, because I like the idea that it has been played with.  Your pictures on the other hand, show what can be done with scale trains and great craftsmanship on scenery. I really liked the two observation cars and the two cabooses.  That B&O GP is handsome as well.

@Don McErleann, you said the right word, “Joy” and those little trains, and Lionel’s little trains brought great joy for little boys and girls during the Holidays. I do not know anything more Christmasy than the little train around the Christmas tree. (American Flyer to) This thread is so much fun to read.

Thank You Dallas, those are canister lights with regular clear bulbs, they were in the 2nd owners man cave wish I had pictures before it was gutted. I sent you a email, by chance are you interested in beer labels that were never put on bottles? let me know Mark

Bill think you need a bigger table for that Alaska Diesel. Hows that layout coming along?

OK  Mark.    I could probably use the labels.     I haven't seen any of the MTH tank cars going for cheap right now.   

  I was going for the RKs in regular size or the shorty Premiers and trying to keep the prices under $ 25 including the shipping.

Hi guys. I am away from my trains for the morning so I will post to TET later. Larry neat switchers esp the orange “Safety First” one. Mark neat scenes esp the two “huskies”. You know some folks think of Huskies as being just an outdoor dog. However one of my best friends had a Husky for many years and it lived inside their home and it was the most loving and friendly dog we ever knew.

Looks like no spills or fire. Good thing that Challenger wasn't movin' too fast. Otherwise, that string of tankers would look like Lawrence Welk's accordion! I think you're going to have to have a little chat with your dispatcher; snack time is no excuse for being distracted
