What an excellent drawing he created Bob! Did he continue art as a career or hobby?

Gene

Thanks Gene, He has done some great Christmas cards, and assignments in regular art class. He’s been quite busy with marching band, and shooting. He is in a program where he leaves the academic HS and goes to study welding on some days. He turns in high grades across the board. He’s up for review for Eagle Scout. He likes trains but where does he fit the in?

Beautiful Caboose Mel. The pics and video just make it better thanks for sharing.

Two of my grandsons visited during the holiday on Monday and we ran trains. I think these fellows could become adult model railroaders someday.

Boston & Albany 4-6-4 Hudson #606 (MTH 20-3583-1) pulled a passenger train with New York Central heavyweight passenger car #1967 at the tail end and B&A 4-6-0 Ten-Wheeler #1916 (Lionel 6-28098) pulled a short freight with caboose #1179 carrying the markers.

Video shows #606 on the O-54 middle loop of my 12’-by-8’ layout and #1916 on the O-72 outer loop.

Very nice Mel, another picture perfect moment to remember a good time.

Run of the mill Lionel bay window caboose, beautifully decaled and custom painted by John Trotta, of “Trotta’s Trains and Things”. He used to sell at local NYC/LI/ Northern NJ train shows, and had some great looking stuff. This was done for me on request, and he delivered the goods! If anyone knows that he’s still in business, please comment.

That's beautiful Mark - didn't know that Angela's husband was even involved in the hobby.

The GM&O's paint scheme has always been a favorite and there are so few pieces out there to choose from. I've some Atlas F3's that  run with some 72' Williams cars that are 'similar' but darker.

Only issue are the trucks - golly, it appears that the car would tip over in a hard curve!  Lol.

Well today I have an old favorite, I just re-discovered this gal as I was moving some items around to get some new trains on the layout and "out she popped!"  So here is the Lionel (MPC) Jersey Central Lines caboose from 1973-74 and 1975-76 u so this old gal is from the early days of MPC, nearly 50 years ago!.  She had some premium features (for the time) with railings and ladders on both ends and an operating coupler on both ends.  She also had an add on smokestack and thus you have a reasonably premium caboose, no illumination however which seems a little strange given the other premium features but there you have it.

I do have a JC FM diesel loco that I don't often run (almost too long) but maybe I will break it out to give this one a bit of a run.

Best Wishes

Hate to disappoint, Sam, but they’re not related. I asked John that very question once. Her full name is Angela Trotta Thomas.

I believe the trucks’ appearance  is a result of the uneven plank it’s resting on, and not the caboose itself.

New York Central wood-sided caboose #19654 is a Railking model (30-7721) delivered in 1998 at MSRP $39.95 shown here at the tail end of a freight train pulled by NYC SW8 #9620 on my 10’-by-5’ layout. I have newer MTH Premier NYC cabooses with more detail that I could run at the tail end of this train but I somehow prefer to run this 26-year-old model which looks good and is not fragile.

Well not near as realistic as Melgar's NYC but an example of a rival railroad, the Pennsylvania, here is the Lionel 6257 PRR caboose.  I don't have a year on this example as I can't trace the number but its relatively recent likely last 5 years.  I bought it for its bright colors and livery as a simple pick up at a local train show and I enjoy running it with my new Menards F-3 AA units.  Its a base model, without even platform railings and no illumination but I like the colors and the livery.
