Before our move I had to take down my layout in the old house. I thought it should been recorded as our crew dismantled a trestle. Don

Wow! What an awesome trestle and mountain. Sad to see a layout come down. Will you be rebuilding your current layout or starting a new one in your new house?
Pat
I agree: awesome! Did you carve the stonework, use a mold, or??
Hal
Yes Don, I remember your old layout quite well. It has been a few years.
Great pic, thanks for sharing and bringing back a few memories.
When I did mine a few years ago, I used the more "brute force" method....

Never fun to destroy something like that, looking forward to pictures of the new layout.
Great shot Don. The crane lowering the long timber beam is an eye catcher. Yes, I remember that layout too and especially your fantastic video with the period music and great visual effects!
Tearing down can be tough on all:
Before:
After: These guys could have sworn there was a football field here!
But having a new blank slate to work with often provides inspiration for better things.

Hal, I made some molds and bought very large molds from a guy that lives in the California foothills. He makes dozens of different ones. Almost any rock formation you can think of. This is what they look like as I build this canyon. It's six ft. high and goes all the way to the floor.Don

Don,
I "liked" this thread, but I don't like this thread.
It is never fun taking done a layout. I've done that twice, one HO, the other O. First problem was the "do we have to?". Neither was fun, but had to be done. Can't wait to see what the new one looks like.

Ditto here!

Don's former layout (in California at the time) was the cover feature in OGR Run 248 (February 2011). He lives in Hawaii now, and has had a couple of articles published in the magazine since his move. I believe (and hope) his new layout is still under construction and that our magazine readers will see more of it soon. . . the sonner the better!
Don, is the canyon going to survive the move and be a part of the next layout ? This is stunning rock work, some of the best I have ever seen, particularly in such a large expansive area....
The rainy night video you had from your old layout was a all time favorite of mine. Very moody.......
The last time I took a layout down I was 18 and my parents moved to a new house (a long time ago).
Always sucks to tare apart something you put so much work into. Hopefully the next layout will be bigger and better.
Good luck with the move Don.

Wait - Don - didn't your layout come down about 8 years ago? I was waiting for the Thread " New Hiawatha reborn in Hawaii"
Has it been that long?
This thread is titled "Last Layout" not "Previous or Former Layout."
I wonder if that is significant.
