I started out of the gate when MTH began offering scale equiptment back in the mid 90's and went West Coast crazy for Proto 1. Got turned off during the "Lack of Compatibility" era. I rediscovered trains when a group of manufacturers decided on a system. Now I had the option to acquire a large collection.
Recently, what has made me a full blown nut job, are the conversions that have been available over the past years. Weaver Models has done a great job doing conversions for my Proto Locos. Nothing like TMCC guts in an MTH engine. They run flawlessly.
Scale structures, signal systems and detail parts have come a long way in the last decade as well.

BTW, I enjoyed your April 21st & 22nd, 2014 Chicago visit.

I really enjoyed reading your post, Erol. Your observations are spot on. I will say that I am sure glad you found the hobby as you are a real credit to us all.
Erol. Happy anniversary and happy birthday to you daughter! Great post and very well written. Ever consider going into law?
This thread is a great read.
I did not realize until near the end that most of it dates from 2-1/2 years ago!
