I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the mailbox today, a "free" issue of OGR. Put a smile on my face considering it always contains bills. I had subscribed before but had to cut back "extras" due to work downturns. The gratis issue today is greatly appreciated, especially with it having Chris Esposito's fine layout featured. Thanks all.

"Free" with paid subscription? Yeah wow.
Those free issues were supposed to be sent only to non-subscribers and former subscribers compiled from a couple of lists. Some current subscribers may have also received one, and those folks should feel free to just pass it along to a friend or associate who might be interested in learning something about our hobby.
I don't subscribe to the magazine (don't need to since I see it every day), but I also received the free issue in my mail here at home. Rich does subscribe, though, and he also received the issue, although he should not have been sent one.
All mailings are handled by our printer in Minnesota, so glitches from time to time are somewhat inevitable.
Allan;
If the printer has any extra copies left over, maybe a good place for them would be at the entrances to the halls at York. I'm sure that there are quite a few folks who attend York but do not subscribe to the best O gauge model railroading magazine on the planet.
Now, I just have to figure out what to do with the copy I received since I am already a subscriber.
I got one too. Thanks Rich. BF

These are not "extra" copies. They were an addition to the normal press run specifically designed to promote the magazine and hopefully attract new subscribers and readers. You can be sure that we pay our printer for all copies, although the unit cost does go down the more copies you print.
At York we really prefer to meet folks face-to-face at our booth. There will always be some York attendees who do not know about us, I suppose, but hopefully that number is very small at the York Meet since we not only have a prominent booth in always-popular the Orange Hall, but also host the grandstand event on Friday as well as our ever-popular "Thursday at Friday's" get-together.
I drop all of my "used" copies of OGR and CTT off at various Dental and Medical offices incognito. Just did so today with 7 issues .At my age there are plenty of medical site opportunities!
My female Dentist with two young sons inquired if I was the "one" because she knew I drank the ogauge kool aide. Two years ago, when asked, I had suggested a starter set which in the first place they felt was enormously expensive and, secondly, unfortunately failed out of the box. No more recommendations from me to "soccer moms", especially a Dentist who can appply painful payback!
They later bought their boys some HO and are moving on with that.
