The Harlem Line Passes Through The Poconos

I love it, as someone who takes the Harlem Line from White Plains weekly I think it is great. I remember those S motors tooling around the North White Plains yard in the 70's. There was so mush variety on the Harlem then. S Motor's, ACMU's, RS-3 and FL-9..Now it is about as boring as it gets..

On my layout, NYC electrification extends southward into Pennsylvania, where it interchanges with the RDG and PRR.

You just have to use your imagination to see those S-motors passing over the Alleghenies.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get to experience the Harlem Line until the early 2000’s, so I missed the “glory days”!!! I only got to experience the M’s with the occasional Genesis. Did love it when one of the McGuiness Genesis’ headed up the train.

Thanks MELGAR... from what I’ve been able to learn, there was a whole host of various electrics on what we now call Metro-North in the day. In reality, I think my fascination with the Harlem Line goes back to when I was rather young and watched Marlo Thomas in That Girl on TV. If I remember correctly, she commuted from Brewster into Manhattan. As a kid growing up in Brooklyn (who took the subway anywhere I needed to go), Brewster might as well have been Outer Mongolia!!!

I totally agree, Balshis... my road, my rules!!! Though, in retrospect, if Metro-North had run out to the Poconos (I still hold no hope for the restoration of the old Erie Lackawanna Line), my last 17 working years of crazy commuting would have been WAY easier!!!

My “Harlem Line” is sharing the road with CSX.....this is an old video from Ashland Rail Days, circa 2011.....

It is titled the “last ride” because it started smoking.... and a board had to be replaced. It’s been fine ever since.....
