That's even bigger then the MTH wood chip car!

They are monsters, more like boxcars from some alien world!
Nice, but it's a layout killer. Wish I had a HUGE layout to run a string of these on.
It's positively biblical.
You don't realize how HUGE these boxcars are until you see them in person for the first time. And the fact that they're hy-cubes -- as opposed to an empty 89' flatcar -- only adds to their immense "presence".
For the right layout, they're sure to make quite the impression. On the wrong layout (which is what most of us here would have for rolling stock like this), they're destined to be display-shelf queens.
And speaking of curves, these gems won't look right on ANYTHING less than O-144. Of course, you can try running them on something less, but they won't look right at all.

A double-jointed telescoping arm, guided in its side-to-side motion by a V-shaped slot that lengthens the arm as it deflects to either side of the car.

Awww, c'mon David! If those awful stick-on windows on Lionel passenger cars don't bother you, what's a little overhang?!
Growing up in Detroit I saw a lot of these cars, so I got used to their size, especially when seeing them sitting in a yard near some older 40' boxcars.
These would completely dominate the scene on most home layouts.

Gorgeous cars, but too big for my layout!
Wow!!! Thanks for the photo's.
A behemoth!
I love these cars but I don't think I can pay $95 for a box car! Wow!!
I can appreciate these on someone else's layout but not for mine. Kind of like the Centipedes.
Doubt I'd run it much.....but gotta have one!!!! COOL!

$68.95 at Charles Ro sounds a lot better.
These are cool - I run them in N-scale by the bunch. If you have the O-scale layout for them , they look awesome. The problem is obviously (already mentioned) that for most of us, we could run maybe 3 or 4 even if we have the curves. I've gotten smarter about sidings lately, and coupling/uncoupling more frequently to get longer trains out of shorter sidings, hence more realistic train length, but with cars this long, you really have to compromise!
I have a hard enough time with Scale boxcars making my scale diesels look small. When I saw these at York about I year ago, I was like "wow cool", but no way for my layout
Well, how long is that box car? Or better yet, what is its catalog number?
Thx
Alex
Looks like a garden scale box on O-guage trucks! Cool looking beast but too massive for my pike!

I just purchased two of the Friscos. Very cool!

The Lionel catalog shows an incorrect length.
Measured one at the store, recall a little over 23" Alex and the Auto Rack was about .375" longer at the couplers.
I got to get me one of those boxcars!!!................Rogerw.

With a price of $ 79.95 for a new Lionel PS-1 box car it's like getting the size of 2.5 new PS-1 box cars for the price of one Auto Parts car.

I got to get me one of those boxcars!!!...
One may be all most folks need... for their display shelf.

David, I'm not getting this car to display! I plan on running this car with my autoracks. My layout is big enough (37' x 20') and I have 0-72 curves on my layout.
I purchased The Frisco car, and Yes, its a BIG CAR, the same length and probably frame of the Scale Auto Carrier model. I can run this on my layout as I have wide radius curves, but it will probably dwarf the other cars, so, I will run it in an auto carrier train. Its gonna look good. $80 bucks......Happy Railroading
Sooner or later somebody is gonna ask. It says minimum curve O54 do you think they will work on my O45 curves?

No with car this long you will have to use the minimum of 054.

Yes... but you just KNOW somebody's gonna want to try for less than that!
wouldn't it be better to ask what track diameter will make it look great on the layout rather than how small of a circle will it get around??

Sounds like a great plan... an auto parts boxcar along with some nice auto carriers. Doesn't get any better than that!!!
