Found this lying on the grass mat between the inner and outer loop so it might be an engine.
Last engines I ran was a Lionel 0-6-0t and an MTH Premier GP-30, but there were others a few days before.
Hopefully someone has seen one before. Thought posting it was worth a shot.
Length is 7mm. Maybe 1.5mm thick

It almost looks like a pantograph spring although I doubt it as it is a bit short for that. Please note that I am mostly familiar with scale pans and that one is not really long enough.
Maybe a spring to keep tension on hold down straps on a flat car load. Usually underneath the car.
