Hi Everyone, I've often wondered how many of us "O" gaugers like the "Thumbtack" style of uncouplers or as Lionel calls their other style "Hidden Uncoupler Tabs". My vote would be for the "Thumbtacks". First, they are very easy to get to. Second, scale isn't an issue unless you replace your entire fleet of freight/passenger cars. I think we are talking big bucks here! Third, you would need a slew of the uncoupler track pieces to help you there. Again, big bucks along with retro fitting this piece into your layout. We're talking major time wasted and major headaches arising. Fourth, no matter where you put number 3, it wouldn't be in the right spot. Fifth, if you eliminated step 3, my fingers are way too big to activate the hidden uncouplers. Lastly, I've been using the thumbtacks since the dawn of man. I don't want to change now, see reasons 2 through 5. I know that many of you have reasons why to use the new style and reasons to keep the thumbtacks. Let's hear them!

I hate thumbtack couplers !  IMO these should be obsolete already.

Thumbtack couplers look rediculous, not to mention, I'm waiting for the day one of those low hanging badboys shorts my center rail.

The "hidden" uncoupler plate tucked discretely between the truck axles in my experience works more reliably and has a larger surface area so it doesn't have to be exactly lined up with the magnet.

Both styles have the little" hidden uncoupling tabs" in the same place for uncoupling by hand, not sure what you mean there.

I own one set of MTH passenger cars with thumbtacks, everything else i.e. Lionel and K Line has the hidden plate under the trucks. thank goodness.
