ThumbWheel Problem

when mine worked erratically like you describe, I replaced it. I only put the foam in, to make accidental presses less prone to happen. It also helps it from getting broken by strong thumb presses.

 There is a post if you search, that describes taking it apart and cleaning the contacts. Mine was so old, I just figured it was time to replace it.

Do what Joe stated.  Wheels are very cheap and very easy to do with no special skills needed.  Not a bad idea to order an extra.  The day of the remote is fading as the I-phone is the way to go.

Marty, thank you. Put an order in earlier. And I know that the WiFi is the way of the future. I just need the computer skills now to be able to run Windows on my Mac. I am not savvy enough to do that. Yet!

And Barry, Thank you. Looks like I will need to buy the WiFi edition of the Companion. I have an earlier edition that I have earmarked a lot. Not sure why your response does not show on this thread, but again thank you.

I don't have the wifi and don't know much about it although my son wants me to get it.  But why does Windows need to be put on a MAC?  Doesn't the Android or IOS operating system of your wifi device do everything it needs to do?

I have to upgrade my TIU and my remotes. MTH only makes the software to do that on a Windows platform. You will not be able to download the loader program on a Mac without being able to run it as a Windows Machine. If you have a PC you will be fine, but my PC was zapped during an electrical storm this past fall.

I would like to place a big Shout Out to one of our Junior Members on the forum...well, to be exact, a freshman in high school. He personally took it upon himself to help me establish a partition on my Mac for Windows so that I could download and implement the MTH Loader program. He offered his help when he saw my plea and took hours walking me through the process. I now can shift from Apple to Windows and begin the process. Begin that is as soon as the RS-232 cable that can go from nine pin to USB connection comes in. 

But again, many, many thanks to AmeentrainGuy for all you did. It is not easy to teach Old Dogs new tricks, but he did!
