are the trucks on the starter set version of the lionel tier 4 plastic ? what about the fuel tank ? i've heard the engine is very light maybe lighter than my gp38 with plastic trucks and metal frame and fuel tank

It's not a very good quality loco. (There was a thread the Forum recently about the tiny, cheap motors burning out prematurely with no replacement parts available.) Don't be sorry! Keep saving your money and try to step up to LionChief Plus or RailKing. My $.02.
The LC "Area 51" set which I have on pre-order contains an example of this engine; my expectations are not very high for this starter engine. If necessary, I will try a bit of "kit bashing" to improve performance.
