No one can answer that specifically unless they first know what version you have loaded in yours.
There have been numerous upgrades to performance of the software over the years. You need newer ones to use newer features in engines and remotes or the app.
So what exactly are you asking about?
You can't use the app with older versions of DCS in the TIU for example. Upgrades have been made to running in supermode.
There have been bugs in the software that made it hard to load engines that were fixed in later software releases.
I just purchased a tiu and remote setup new from Nicholas smith trains at the last October York and was wondering if it’s time for an update. How often should this be performed?
best to just download the latest revision they only have updates when there has been some kind of issue you can check your rev with the remote select tiu rev and it will tell you which rev software you have! 6.1 or later the later the number the newer the rev I think there up to rev 6.2 you can check the mthtrains.com web sight and can then download the remote n tiu revs ok. the remote must have the same rev as the tiu so if you update, download them both!
when you first turn the remote on watch the screen remote will tell you which software you have for instance 6.10 or whatever it is!

Whenever MTH releases a new DCS version # (revision).
The problem some run into, is thinking that a new DCS set should have the new software. The set may have been built earlier or even sat on a shelf somewhere before it was sold. So it maybe brand new, yet still have outdated software inside.
i occasionally have issues running laps ups. I’ ehad to delete and re-add the,. Will software updates help with that?
It depends on the reason. It should fix it if the software is an older version.
What are the issues?
I’ll select the lash up engine from the list on the controller. I’ll start up and only one or neither will run. So,etc,es I have to restart everything or delete and re-add the lash up.
Sorry I just got in.
When you select the engine, you are selecting the whole lashup that you named to finish building it, right?
Not just the lead engine.
I haven't seen this issue unless you have low signal issues or an engine with a dead battery.
How strong is your track signal using the test?
Again, there are old DCS versions that have bugs. The system will also act up if the same software release isn't in both units.
Peter,
I wouldn't think Nicholas Smith Trains would sell you a DCS system with old software, but you can check it out for your self to make sure. I'm sure they will update it for you if it's not.
6.10 is the lastest . As Alan said , when you first turn on your remote, it will show the version of DCS in your remote.
(Menu / system / TIU setup / TIU version) will show what version is in the TIU to make sure it matches your remote.
I think that Nicholas Smith is among the best dealers out there. I meant nothing against them. I have seen numerous posts here over the years where the poster thought he had a brand new system. When we finally found out the DCS version inside, it was not up to date.
A dealer would have to open up the package and update it. Many dealers maybe, won't open a sealed package as the customers may thing it's used? I've gotten stuff from Ray's Electric trains where he states he will bring any software up to date for you. I'm fine either way and understand both circumstances.
It may be a signal issue I probably need to run more leads to other sections of the track. I have to test the signal. How do you test that?
It's in the remote's features under signal test.
select an active MTH engine, press More at the end of the softkey list, scroll down to track signal, and select it.
You can also get it in the "system" menu options of the remote
