I am in the process of building a new layout, having dismantled my old layout two years ago for basement remodeling. In anticipation, and about that time, I purchased a new TIU and AIU. I do also have an early model TIU (before Rev L). OK, I am testing as I go. I hooked up the new TIU and it quickly recognized the engine on track when I did my engine add. It ran it with no problems. Forgot to mention, I upgraded the software before installing the TIU. So I added a few switches, tested them manually and they worked fine. I then added the AIU. I attempted to read in the AIU and it wasn’t recognized. I restarted the whole system and this time it read it. I hooked up the switch and using the remote, attempted to operate it. The remote said the switching occurred, but nothing happened. I listened to the AIU and I did not hear relay noise to indicate it had operated. I shut down the system and once again, the AIU was not recognized but a restart and it was found again. So I pulled out my old TIU, installed it, and that cured the problem as the engine and switches worked fine. I reinstalled the new TIU thinking that maybe the AIU needed a kick start, but the new TIU still did not work. Thoughts on what may be the cause of the TIU problem? Any help old be appreciated. I suppose it is out of warranty at this point since as I said, I purchased it some two plus years ago. And yes, my next level test will be to hook up my wifi module. Thank you!

Bob,

First, confirm that you used the same AIU cable when issuing each TIU.
Second, make sure that the two TIUs have the same DCS ID# and that the DCS ID# is the one that you used when programming the switch tracks.
Third, look inside the AIU port on the new TIU and check for bent or shorted pins.
Hello Barry,
Thanks for the suggestions. Regarding your first point, all connections and wiring are identical. I did check the red light blinks and they are also identical for each TIU (one each). BTW, i assume that was a typo in your note and you meant TIU, not AIU. I had also referred to the TIU replacement procedure in your book and I had done all of that. Finally, I did check the pins last evening and they appeared ok, but I did again today in better light and some do appear to angle back more than the others. I am thinking that this may be the problem unless you have any other thoughts? Would you happen to know if it is an easy replacement and if so, where do i get the piece, or would you recommend that have it repaired by someone who better knows what they are doing? Haha!
Thank you again!
Bob
