TIU settings

Most of the DCS settings are stored in the remote, super-TIU being one of those settings.  The fixed-mode voltage for the variable channels is stored in the TIU for obvious reasons, it has to react when it's powered on.

Thanks for the info.  If the TIU variable/fixed channel information is stored in the TIU, shouldn't any added handhelds/smart devices show the updated channel settings for the TIU vs default settings?  

This may be a question for Barry B or MTH to respond to.

You'd think it would, but apparently not.  If you look at the remote, it doesn't actually tell you the status of the variable/fixed setting, it just allows you to set it.

No, it should not. TiUs only speak when spoken to. They don't initiate conversations with remotes. They just answer questions.

-When does the handheld send TIU setting changes to the TIU?  As soon as the Handheld communicates with the TIU or only when there is a TIU setting change made in the handheld.  

-If the TIU is set up with all fixed channels, and someone uses a handheld/smart phone that has TIU default settings, does the TIU now change to 2 fixed & 2 variable channels?

Sorry for the questions, I am working in a club environment where there are a lot of variables and some items are hard to control.  The better we understand the details, the easier it will be to address some of the DCS issues we are running into.

It's only when a setting is changed.  If you look at the fixed/variable screen as an example, there is no feedback to tell you what the current setting is.  If you change something there, it's set in the TIU and will affect all people using that TIU.

That's the way the DCS remote works, but I don't have enough mileage on the WiFi application to say if it follows those rules, however it would seem that it certainly should!

Only when a command is issued, such as when changing a TIU setting.

Yes, the TIU just does what it's told.

Barry, are you saying just by controlling an engine with a remote with default settings that it will remove the fixed voltage setting for the variable channels?  If so, I have to disagree.  I've reset my bench remote many times to defaults, and it never screws up my TIU settings.

Yes, the TIU just does what it's told.

I think there's a disconnect in communication here.  I don't have that issue using a reset remote, it leaves the TIU settings alone.

No, that's not what I said. I said: "Only when a command is issued, such as when changing a TIU setting." Engine commands can only change engine settings and TIU commands can only change TIU settings.

To be clear, if one DCS Application changes a TIU setting, it's effectively changed for every remote and DCS Application.

 Nope not going to happen ,..Surely the tiu behaves just like an engine, It only responds to the last command given.   You 're going to need  someone to set things up (tiu setting) and the  rest of the members  leave it well enough  alone.

Thanks for the clarification on how the handheld/smart phone communicates with the TIU.  Basically the only time the handheld/smart phone sends updates to the TIU is when the handheld/smart phone detects a change was made in the setting.  

Barry- In a future wi-fi update, would it be possible to have an option for "password protection" for some system TIU settings such as variable/ fixed channel and TIU number?  Using a handheld, the system TIU settings were buried layers deep and many people didn't know they existed.  With a smart phone, it is way to easy to find these settings, which is good, but in some cases critical system settings need to be protected.

Yes, it's possible. However, that would be up to MTH, not me.

The DCS App has a method to send feedback and suggestions regarding the app. Go to: More... Screen, App Settings, App Support to provide feedback to MTH.
