Are TMCC and Mth's Proto 1 essentially incompatible or is there a way that I could operate a Proto 1 engine with a TMCC command control?

You would operate PS-1 locomotives the same as any other conventional locomotives in a TMCC environment. That is to say if you have the track power regulated by PowerMasters, TPCs, or ZW-C/Ls. I do it all the time. PS-1 locomotives are programmable conventional locomotives, not command locomotives like PS-2/3 and TMCC/Legacy.
bobbbycakes,
Sinclair is absolutely correct and let me take this one step further, if you have DCS joined with your TMCC/Legacy, you can also run all the different types of Conventional engines via the DCS hand held remote control, using the DCS TR TIU mode, and if you have the Z4K with the side receiver, you can also run all the conventional engines via the Z4K TR mode. All kinds of cool remote control operating options, if you have both TMCC/Legacy & DCS combined. In fact I do not have the Power Master, because the DCS TR modes run both the Lionel & MTH conventional engines so well.

Years ago Digital Dynamics offered a product called the Equalizer. It converted your PS 1 engine to TMCC yet retained the sounds of Proto 1. It was a cheaper upgrade at the time as it allowed you to retain the correct sounds you already had. You may be able to find one on the secondary market. If you could find one for next to nothing price wise it's worth a shot. I wouldn't invest much dollar wise in one. There should be some kicking around in someones parts drawers. It will get you upgraded to TMCC with sounds. I installed one in a MTH Proto 1 steamer and wasn't to impressed. Chuff never kicked in till the engine was moving at a decent rate of speed. probably in a diesel it's okay. Better off going with a full ERR upgrade that gets you cruise as well.
Dave, that was a great product. I loved those. If they were available today they would own the market.

I would sure be buying them.
They were great products - had several of them when Ed first released them. From some of the conversations i had with Ed prior to his going out of that business, i believe there was an availability issue on some specific components.

Didn't the TPC Platinums and the Lionel TPC add some limited PS-1 features that could be access via the Cab01?
Yes they did Chris, and those macro commands were carried over to the Legacy PowerMaster as well.
