TMCC Cab1 Question...

It does sound like a signal issue.  As a starting point double check your 110V Cab 1 adapter connection to ensure you are are getting a solid ground.  If using a surge protector power terminal change to a standard 3 prong extension cord from the wall outlet to the adapter.  

Make sure the ground wire from the Cab 1 to outside rail is firmly in place.

I thought I was the only one running trains with the original Command Base and Cab 1!

  It's been my experience the crystal in the Cab 1 loosens in it's socket.  Open the battery compartment and you will see towards the top outside edge of the open compartment the silver "can" of the crystal.  Just give it nudge up with your finger then try the Cab 1 again.  I don't know how many times I have done this along with working the crystal pin sockets in the connector over the years. 

Give it a shot.  Can't loose anything.

Did this in the Lionel Service Station far too much for customers and continue today with my 1994 vintage gear. 

The TMCC  engines run fine with the dcs remote so the Lionel  Command base must be working as it should . That leaves the cab  1 as the problem,  New batteries didn't help. Check out Chuck's reply above.

Thank You for the help guys ! Unfortunately playing with the plug in crystal on either CAB1 did not help but it was worth a try to ask. Ill just stick with using the DCS remote for now.

Bob when you press a button on the Cab-1 does the LED on the Command Base flash?

General conditions, high humidity, layout remodel that involves glue and water tend to degrade track signal until all is dry.  I noted this as I added ballast and did track side remodeling.

It flashes intermittently with the CAB1.... steady with the DCS remote.

Nothing like that has been done to the layout...but thanks for the suggestion.

Is it CAB1 or CAB1-L?

Since the base appears to be sending a proper signal to the track, you're looking at an issue with either the 27mhz communication from the CAB1 to the base, or the CAB1 has a problem internally.  Denny's question is also good, is this the old CAB1 with the external antenna, or blue CAB1L or "Legacy Lite" set?
