Hello

First off let me say I am very new to TMCC (a little over a year) and have had DCS for 12 years.

I have acquired 17 TMCC locomotives (Lionel Atlas and Kline) and they all seem to work rather well.

My question is this...why would all of a sudden would my CAB1 start acting up and take longer to make the locos respond to commands ? For instance...The horns and whistles work intermittently when activated also you have to push the coupler buttons (F&R)  for a few seconds before they fire and direction changes are sometimes non existent and they train keeps going.

I tried fresh batteries and also tried using a NIB CAB1 and get the same results.

Also when I load the locos into a DCS remote they work flawlessly...quick responses with all functions just like the CAB1s used to work up until recently...any help would be appreciated ! Thank You .

It does sound like a signal issue.  As a starting point double check your 110V Cab 1 adapter connection to ensure you are are getting a solid ground.  If using a surge protector power terminal change to a standard 3 prong extension cord from the wall outlet to the adapter.

Make sure the ground wire from the Cab 1 to outside rail is firmly in place.

I thought I was the only one running trains with the original Command Base and Cab 1!

It's been my experience the crystal in the Cab 1 loosens in it's socket.  Open the battery compartment and you will see towards the top outside edge of the open compartment the silver "can" of the crystal.  Just give it nudge up with your finger then try the Cab 1 again.  I don't know how many times I have done this along with working the crystal pin sockets in the connector over the years.

Give it a shot.  Can't loose anything.

Did this in the Lionel Service Station far too much for customers and continue today with my 1994 vintage gear.
