No, I am not trying to lash the two system's together. Question is- I’ll be running a couple of TMCC diesels in lash up. Now I have DCS and a Cab1 systems. I know DCS will run TMCC stuff, but which is less troublesome, run the TMCC with the DCS, or Just run the TMCC lash up with the cab1 system? I ask this because even though I have messed with the two systems for awhile. I still consider myself a rookie and know there are a lot of you out there that would have way more experience in doing this than I.

This same question appeared both here and in the TMCC/Legacy forum submitted by different folks.  I responded that it should work and, I believe that Barry mentioned it in his book, but I have never tried it.  At just about the same time GRJ responded in pretty much the same way.

Today I had nothing to do so I tried it out.  I used the Premier app on my iPad.  First, make sure that both locomotives are present in the app and that both are active.  At the top click Choose or add and engine .  At the bottom under ADD click on Build Lash Up.   You have three choices, DCS, TMCC or Legacy.  If you are pairing a TMCC and a LEGACY select TMCC.   Mine were 2 Legacy engines.  Click on Build Legacy Lash Up.  Give your lash up a name and select the TIU by just touching the appropriate one.  Now click Next at the top right.  Now select one of the engines from the list and select whether it will be the Head, Middle or Tail engine.  Now select which direction it is running.  Repeat the process for the next engine and any additional engines.  Finally, click Done.  Both locomotives should start and the horn/whistle of the lead engine will blow once.  You're done.

I left the locomotives uncoupled just to be sure everything was working correctly.

I hope this helps.

Thanks Dan.

Here is my note to Dean Brasseur at Lionel Customer Service, to better explain the problem as I followed the above suggested tips with no success.

Hi Dean,

I received and successfully entered both engines into the DCS Remote.  What I am having difficulties with is creating a lash-up with both engines? Having tried several times to create this, once I’ve named the consist, they will let off several horn blasts but then 3601 starts in reverse (short hood forward) whereas 3611 moves forward  with long hood forward.. When I try re-establishing the consist by reversing the head and tail engines as well as the direction they start out in, I get the same result.

When I separate the engines and run them on the same track, they’re both responsive and operate fine.

Dan, I agree. I’ve not heard back from Dean as yet.  I do not have a Legacy system/remote, just using a DCS /TMCC set-up.

I’ve had instances where I’ve gotten 4,5,6 horn blasts which is really odd. Sometimes, both engines are in sync and repeat the same sequence, other times not.

As an aside, I pre-ordered both engines, upon receiving them, neither engine would log in to the DCS remote. Both had to be returned to Lionel where they flashed each engine and tested them before returning. Upon receiving them, they both logged in with no problem. But, the problem remains that they will not sync up as a lash-up, yet.

Thanks Dan and John, I won’t get another chance to mess with them until this weekend. I’ll try what you suggested. If things get to troublesome with the DCS WiFi, I’ll just run them off of my Cab 1.

It will work.  If you are using CAB1, use the TMCC lash up, even if both locomotives are Legacy.  Let us know how you make out.
