I have a K-Line scale T1 Berkshire with TMCC and cruise that doesn't respond correctly while using TMCC.  I programmed the engine and got the whistle blow.  I put the engine in run mode.  It will only blow whistle and ring bell, and move in each direction very slowly.  Smoke and couplers work fine.  No engine sounds ( chugging), just signal sounds ( and yes the switch for full sounds is in the correct position).  In fact it will only run using my DCS controller when the soft key (REL) is highlighted.  Any suggestions?

A little more info.  I’m guessing you might have an A1 Berkshire seeing you mentioned scale. You reprogrammed the engine.

Is the engine new to you and you were changing the TMCC I. D. ? Or were you resetting the engine to restore features ?

These engines have a chuff switch. That could be bad or just stuck. They came from the factory with 2 chuffs. They had a puffer type smoke unit so there may be an arm linked with that activates the chuff switch. It’s been a long time since I worked on mine. There was a workaround that you could get 4 chuffs and bypass the switch. I did both of mine. But the paper work I have is long gone. It was posted a few times on the Forum. But that was almost 20 years ago.

Cruise in in 128 mode which is the factory default is pretty slow accelerating. If it happens to be set for 256 steps it takes forever to get up to speed. You can change the settings. You can also change it to 32 steps. A K-Line manual should be somewhere in the TMCC section on the Forum. If not I can find mine.

‘As far as running with a DCS remote. I tried that at one time. DCS only supported 32 steps. From the factory they were set for 128 steps. That’s all you could get as far as speed and the engine would no longer accelerate. At some point DCS supported more steps and fixed the problem. For some reason. My engines would always start and not move. Unless I hit the soft key under 128. I have no idea what revision of DCS that was. But it was a number of years ago. I never did try it in Relative.

Didn't some of these engines have a problem like that.  Worked in conventional but only slow speed in Command, or it may have been vice versa.  There used to be post about various setting and such, or speed limits set.  I remember working on one and no amount of resets and changing would fix it.  It would only move at slow speed.  In the end changed it to a DCDR or Cruise M, can't remember which.  G

Wish that was the first mode of failure.  My K-line Allegheny Cruise failed by stopping and actually smoking the board.  Stinky repair:-0

Did get a fair amount of run time though.  Has the original DCDR back in it which is fine for me.  G

I've seen quite a few K-Line cruise boards go up in smoke.  The really odd part is, it's not anywhere near the high current parts of the board, I posted a photo of one some time back, I can't find it now.  It's on the logic end in a group of small TO-92 packages, the whole section smokes and destroys the board.  It has to be some design flaw as I've seen a number with the exact same failure.

The fire seems to be right in the indicated section every time.

Thanks for all the helpful advice.  I found an old post from a previous question I had about resetting the feature code.  I followed the instructions and it worked!  Now the engine works great.  What found out us that if I run TMCC through my TIU I have to set the speed steps on my DCS controller to 128 or it won't run.  Also It has to be run in cruise mode. It's a good engine with great detail but lacks in pulling power . LOL!  It can handle about 29 scale freight cars comfortably.  17068332557248032084277747893797
