It occurred to me that the only thing I need my cw-c for is to run conventional locomotives with the cab1. If i used a conventional transformer I could run conventional with the handles and command with the cab1.

I have the command base, cab1, and a zw-c. I also have a kw and an old type zw. Thanks; Don

You have it right.

What you lose is the ability to use the remote and roam around when conventional. You need to be near the transformer to control the conventional trains' speed.

(Assuming I read you post correctly and you said you have a ZW-C which lets you control the handles with the remote like 4 TMCC powermasters)

I probably mistook his post for suggesting he was thinking of getting rid of the ZW-C. (the phrasing of "the only thing i need it for..." probably skewed my interpretation)

My bad for reading too fast (though I'm not sure what the question was if not elimination of the ZW-C).

according to MR the cw puts out the cut wave and ran the sd70 ace smoke unit great at 15 volts and the 1033 barely put out any smoke at 15 volts. Why did the change the legacy smoke units, I think the one in my fef is fantastic and will equal a mth smoke unit where the legacy engines will not get anywhere near mth. bummer. if it don't need fixing don't fix it.

Hopefully Don can clarify so we actually answer his question.

Since you can't control conventional trains with a CAB-1 using a CW-80, I guessed that the opening cw-c was a typo.
