Just received a handsome Lionel U28CG from here on the Forum and it seems to only start up in conventional. I'm using a Legacy system and another similar model starts and operates fine.

This one will run correctly in conventional but with the Legacy sysstem on, it still comes up in conventional.

I switched it to Prog to try a reset of the ID and it came on with sounds and smoke and would sound the horn with the push of any button. No response to the throttle however.

Have not had his before. Any suggestions please?

Thanks guys. It was not recognizing the TMCC at all and coming up is conventional neutral. WOuld not respond to me. I contacted the owner and he said it was fine last week and talked me through loading the info into the Legacy remote. We then did a reset a couple of times and got her back online. I need to become more familiar with the system.

Really nice engine.

Thanks Nick

not trying to cause trouble but the above statement makes no since to me as I can run my legacy engines without loading the module.  the engine just runs in cab1 mode.  all the module does is load some basic engine info, it loads nothing to make the engine run.

I was the original owner and the issues described were resolved through a factory reset and loading all the proper parameters into the info page. And raising the volume from mute, of course

I hear a lot of people talking about Cab-1 mode with Legacy, and I actually still don't know what that is. I prefer to use the full Legacy system to command my older TMCC locos, and this involves loading of those two white modules (generic steam or diesel) to get the older TMCC locomotive set up properly for Legacy control. For example, one of the problems we encountered was that on the info page, the locomotive was set to RS, but it was in fact a RS-5 locomotive so that needed to be corrected.

Cab-2 allows you to set the operational mode of any engine.  Default is cab-1 which means 32 relative speed steps.  Tmcc is 32 absolute steps.  And legacy is 200 absolute steps.  If you hit the info button on a loco you can read out the mode and make changes.

You can set a Legacy engine to run in any of the three modes.  TMCC loco's can run in CAB-1 or TMCC and power supplies like PoweMasters or TPC's only run in CAB-1.  ERR boards access additional features in CAB-1 at the sake of compatibility like additional/finer speed steps or cruise.

I think I'm the only person I know of that actually has those white modules in reaching distance from the layout so it is in fact faster for me to use those for TMCC engines lol

Legacy really is like adding a 3rd party cruise system to some of these TMCC engines. Just recently I uninstalled the EOB from two TMCC locos I bought to restore them to factory original condition, and they operated better under Legacy than with the EOB.
