I have a TMCC GP30 from 2004 (6-28850) that is having a smoke unit problem. The unit is functioning properly except for the fan motor. I replaced the motor and bench tested it prior to installation but the motor does not turn on when I operate the engine. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi,
If you tested the fan motor and it works it probably is the AC Regulator. Here is the part you'll need from Lionel. Hope this helps.

Wrong part, it's not the regulator. If the smoke resistor is getting hot, the regulator is working. What's most likely wrong is one of the parts on the smoke unit PCB has failed. The good news is, they're cheap and there's only three parts.
There's an LM7805L regulator, 1N4003 diode, and a 100uf 35V capacitor. All three are a couple of bucks. Top suspect is the regulator, next the cap, and finally the diode. Personally, unless you can check the circuit, just replace them all.
Thanks for the input. Lionel has a complete smoke unit available for $30.00. Just the PCB is not available. I ordered the complete unit. Glad they had that for a 15 year old loco. $30 is cheap enough.
I'm a cheapskate, I just stick the cheap parts on the old one. By the time you pay shipping, you have spent ten times what the parts would cost.
