Most of you probably remember, and responded to, the post about "What happened to your childhood trains?"

After posting my own response to it, I kept going back to see what other stories were out there.  Well, after several days of this, I decided, ah, what the heck - see if my loco (a 610 Erie NW-2) was listed out on the auction site.

Man, was I surprised to find, the first day I looked, not only several 610's for sale, but also my exact childhood set from 1955. Now, there were no catalogued sets with the 610 as far as I know. On the page of the 1955 catalog showing the 610, there were smaller pictures of example cars with the comment that your dealer can add cars like these to make up a set of your very own.

I won the auction, and just received the set today. While the engine needs work, it is complete, but the satisfaction of finding a connection from years ago is priceless.  I'll sleep well tonight.

I re-created two train sets of my childhood.

A giant Child Guidance toy push train set. I bought all the sets I had and enough to make the grandkids a set too.

I also found for sale all the parts(not track or transformer) to remake a Marx HO set I had.

Both were pretty easy to find and relatively cheap.

Didn't NEED either....but sure was fun and triggered lots of memories.

The internet and auction sites have certainly made it easier to replace long gone train sets.  While I managed to keep my lionel trains and one Marx set.  It took me several years to replace the missing Marx set, UP 10005 AA freight set which is not that easy to find or at least it wasn't that easy in the pre-internet days.

Yes Carl, you should sleep well tonight.  I have been down this road a few times myself and I know the sense of comfort and relaxation you are now experiencing.  Going back into the past and retrieving a long lost and well loved item is something special.  As had been posted internet sales have made much of this possible.  The auction sites are real bonanzas for our talismans of the past.
