My TPC-400 will not go into Conventional Mode. It has operated flawlessly for nearly 20 years and will go into Command just fine...but all of a sudden not Conventional mode. Could it have become overloaded due to large passenger train recently put on tracks??? Also, how does that little red button on the TPC work. Is it a reset breaker button or what???

Greendog do a reset on the TPC 400. We had a similar problem and a reset - see manual will probably fix your problem.
How do you normally switch it to conventional mode?
Mike
Mike, I normally push TR 1 M Set and it has come right up. I tried a re-set using the same pattern and key choices...but Conventional refuses to start. Really puzzzled at this point. Thanks, Pete
Well, you're doing precisely the correct thing.
Could the address somehow have changed (from 1 to something else) while you weren't looking?
Mike
BTW -- I'd try Bruce's suggestion as well, except that it appears that this is exactly the same as what you've been doing. As the manual (v 1.3) on Page 15 says: "Button (M) Sets the locomotive to Conventional operation and resets to factory setting."

The red button should pop out in the event current flow through the TPC-400 exceeds 20 Amps. This button is the circuit breaker trip indicator and reset.
Since the TPC-400 still works in Command, the red button wouldn't have anything to do with its inablity to operate conventionally.
When you finally get it back into conventional mode, you don't have to put it in command mode again. Just hit AUX 1, 9 and it will go to full power. AUX 1, 8 is 30 % power.
We had one at the club that would not stay in conventional mode. We reprogrammed it to a different number, then reprogrammed it back to the number we wanted. That fixed it.
Thanks guys!!!!! All of your suggestions were followed and once again thanks to the wonders of all this modern electronic crap...full conventional and command functions were restored. The thing had just done the usual computer brain mind dump by itself!!! I re-set the ID number first and that did not do it...then I did the high voltage default re-set and then everything worked again as normal.
Thanks to all of you for your help on this and have a wonderful Holiday Season
Just to close things out, what specifically is the "the high voltage default re-set"? What is the specific button sequence on the CAB?
Mike
Mike, It is Aux1, Aux 2, 0. That did it for me. Thanks again for everyone's help. Have a great Holiday guys........
