track screw size for american flyer track

What size screws can be used to fasten american flyer track to a wooden table top?

The holes in the Gilbert track ties are for #17 brads. Any screw will require drilling out the holes. I just use the brads, it is quick and they hold the track in place.

For those interested in obscure collectibles there is always this for fastening and removing Gilbert track.
