Is there one or a few auctions where they sell the really rare and expensive trains?

Everything in Model Trains on EBAY is rare and expensive, per the seller's claims.
But the Museum grade train are only seen on high end Antique Auctions in NYC and sometimes in Pennsylvania due to sales tax laws.
Ward Kimball's Estate trains from California were shipped to Pennsylvania to save having to collecting sales taxes, and get into a larger market area for train collectors.

Forum sponsor Stout Auctions did a FANTASTIC job selling off all of my 3RS stuff! They were great to work with, and even came to our house to pick everything up (even with their large van, they still had to rent a trailer to hold everything). I couldn't be more please, and the entire upstairs is now a master suit.
Top of the line trains are usually sold by Stout Auctions in Indiana.
I'll 3rd Stout Auctions. I've purchased a number of items from them over the years and they have always been first rate. Two other auction houses that do a lot of the rare and expensive are Bertoia and Lloyd Ralston.
Thanks guys! Will check out Stout Auctions.
Stout auctions.....if its not rare ,it will surely be expensive. Whatever your high bid is, plan on going hundreds higher if you want to actually win an item.
I bid online at a Stout auction once.
The bids from the floor came in so fast and shot the price up so much I started laughing
