For some reason this cartoon, which I remember very little of, has stuck with me since the late 50's.

The only part I remember is that there were two trains and one was headed by what I guess would have been a streamlined NY Central steam engine. The trains were bearing down on something or perhaps each other. The NY Central engine's drive rods morped into arms with hands and fingers and swung around to the front end and there was a face on the end of the smoke box, the fingers were used to make loud whistlings sounds with the mouth. The action seemed to switch back and forth between the 2 engines. I know I saw it several times. Thats all I remember.

Does anyboby remember that cartoon?

If so, what about the title? I'm hoping it is on Youtube. I did some searching there but no luck.

Thanks.

When the boy in Play Safe enters his dreamworld, he walks in front of small models that provide a 3-D effect. Each animation cel was photographed in front of a real background. That was used in Popeye cartoons as well. In this age of 3-D movies and CGI's (Computer Generated Images), that feature is easily overlooked. It's a unique feature of Fleischer brothers' cartoons.

When the boy sets a streamlined locomotive rolling, it goes through a tunnel. As soon as it emerges, the tunnel portal becomes an ominous animated face that warns, "Play Safe."
This place never ceases to amaze me. Here is one member asking the ID of some obscure cartoon he saw in the fifties. A question that would be a million dollar answer on some TV game show and here comes Frank in about fifteen minutes with not only the answer but the drawing it self.

Boy that's good stuff. Cool

Donald Duck is great! I'm sure Walt Disney and Ward Kimball were riding around Disney live steam models & thought up this one.

Perhaps.......I would not doubt it, but it is interesting to note that Ward's name does not appear anywhere in the credits of the "Out of Scale" cartoon.
It could be that Ward was working on other projects at the time this one was made. I am sure that he was very familiar with the cartoon and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Enjoy Wink Cool
