I got a new computer. I have Trainminder on the old computer. I can't seem to get it onto the new computer. I have it backed up but I think I have to down load Trainminder on to the new computer from their website. Trainminder has seemed to gone out of business. I tried to email them but it bounced back. There was a fellow who wanted to do beta testing on a new program but was told to stop because he wasn't a sponsor.( I sure could use his help. I thought that was what this forum was about.) Could someone let me know who he is so I can contact him off the forum so I don't break any rules. Thanks

Hi Jim,

I went through the same thing a year ago when replacing my old computer. I ended up keeping the old one just to run Trainminder. The software developer folded (second time) and left the user base in limbo, since installation could only be accomplished by downloading executable software from his website. No price updates are available either. I really hope someone comes forward with a solution. I would be interested in hearing it.

Hi Lee, I had a transfer cable between the 2 computers. I was able to download it but I can't get it to work. May have to keep the old computer until someone figures it out. I started out with Train tracker and that downloaded to trainminder. I have the train tracker  disk but I can't get it to open with windows 10. I'm still trying to figure out windows 10 LOL. I have to get my computer guys at the club to help me out. Thanks

Just an update. Chris Lord (Forum and NJHirailers member) came to my house on Friday and fixed the problem. Chris is an I T guy and found where the files were and put them in the proper place. I used a USB cable between the 2 computers. It is made by Insigna and I got it in Best Buy. It has a program built into the cable to put the 2 computers on 1 screen and you can transfer all you pictures and document and music for your old computer to the new computer. Thanks Chris and Susan for you help and offer.

Jim D,

I also use Trainminder and would sure like it if another firm would purchase the 'rights' and do some improvements on t.  Trainminder has most of the features I desire.  Their downfall is you can not build a custom report.  Had to create separate db's for Pre-War, Postwar and Std. Gauge.  I have it installed on my  desktop and laptop.  No problem transferring files.  I have the installation  disk.

Yes I got the app running. We could not export the inventory to another program or Excel sheet. Yes the guy does post on the forum. I wish he would do the right thing an make it possible to export your inventory to something else. I have over 400 items in my inventory. If Chris couldn't fix it I was going to plan B and have him set up an Excel sheet and I would have had to copy everything over manually.

I was helping a friend with this product. It turns out that it is using a Sybase database that is password protected. Without the login credentials (which I believe are hard coded into the exe) the data can not be accessed. Since the export from TrainMinder is limited it would take the developer to provide you with the login and password. And that is if it is not based on a hash key built from the license key.

Jim D.  I just sent you an e-mail that shows the gentleman's name and e-mail address that is developing the new program. He lives in Colorado.

I wish that Chris and I lived closer together. Maybe if I bring both of my laptops and the cable and also a case of beer, I could get Chris to do this for me at YORK ??? Chris are you listening?

Sorry, I won't get to see you at York.

Chris, say it ain't so.....we were looking forward to seeing you again. After York, we will be driving over to see the New Jersey High Railers Open House the following Sunday. I will contact you off line about that event.

My issue is my hard disk crashed.   I do have everything backed up EXCEPT the email from 7 years ago that has my registration key.   Since I also moved the old email I purchased it on is dead.    So am I SOL on this or is there some way to reinstall or is their some way to get the key from the files on the old location?    Any and All help or ideas is appreciated.

GREG.

Jim D, Greg, and Others:

I wrote the original TrainMinder.  I try to provide support via a Yahoo Group that Bob Amling set up just for that purpose.  If you would please post your request there, I will try to help.

My reasoning is that, if everyone goes to one place to look for info, the answer I give to one person might be of benefit to ten others.  Also, unless someone updates a post as Greg did a short time ago, I might not see it here on OGRR because it's not on the home page under "Recent Posts".

Please post your question on the TrainMinder group and I'll get to it this weekend.  I'm helping another guy with a similar issue (i.e., new machine), so doing two together will be easier.

Thanks.
