I visited you folks with my Delaware O gauge group close to 10 years ago.  It was great!   I'd love to come back, but I've sadly gotten to the point that driving in traffic like you all have around there makes me really nervous.

Its a Saturday  Theres no traffic  LOL  Would love to see you come back   Watching Arnold perform will be worth the drive

Hi Ben "count me in".

For anyone reading this.  I just got back on the forum after a 6 month hiatus so I could attend Trainstock.  Last year was my first time there and it was amazing!  After attending last year I started this thread.

https://ogrforum.com/...se-that-can-t-attend

Anyhow if anyone reading this is "on the fence" about attending, check out the link, and then figure out a way to get there.  It is well worth your time.  Some of you do that for York, this is right up with that.  Just my opinion of course.

BTW the food is better here, and you don't have to walk as much.  LOL

Great to see alot of old friends making a comeback   And its better to see the first timers coming as we are always looking to make new friends

I spoke to Arnold Cribaldi yesterday   He is psyched about entertaining everybody   He will be playing two sets of music  One at 11 and one at 2.   This is the first time we have had entertainment besides our organ player

I would love to attend with my 8 year old grandson.

How does it work in terms of bringing a train?

He has a LC + 2.0 Union Pacific Steamer that he loves.  Should he bring it along with his universal remote?

Thanks,

John

Unless things have changed, you can bring it along.  Years ago, I brought an LC+ Camelback for photo runs, I promptly lost it in the middle of the tunnels when the signal cut out, one of the NJHR guys had to go under to fetch it.  That being the case, I suggest you make sure you run it on one of the loops that it's more easily retrieved if it punks out due to remote range.

He's going to be thrilled.

Just like John said   He can bring it   We have a member that assists in getting things on the track   The thing with Lionchief stuff though is the range and outside interference   They really werent intended for a large layout but there is only one way to find out   Try it!!   I'll gladly retrieve it for you if it gets stuck in a tunnel

The area with all switching track & cars might be a fun area for him, if he likes that kind of action. A gentlemen named Anthony had been running that area the 2 times I visited in 2023 and uses Universal Remotes/bluetooth on his engines.  He had a wide variety of cars to hook up, move and drop off.  Here's a close in shot of what is a much larger area and some of the cars he was moving around. As all the members were, Anthony was very enjoyable to chat with and share what he was doing.

Thanks for that.  It's going to be fun.  He can follow the engine around with his remote.  I guess they also work on a Legacy system as well, but neither he nor I have one.  The universal remote should be fun.

I was just advised I forgot to put the times in the original post   We start at 10AM although if you are traveling we arent going to leave you outside  Our members are here early  We go until everybody leaves or the beer runs out .    Arnold plans on entertaining us at 11 and then again at 2.    Vinny puts appetizers out at about 11:30   He startes calling peole by ticket color to eat at about 12:30  Hope to see you!!!!!!!!!!!

My son and I are going to attend.  We may not be there until a little later since we are driving from Maryland.  Any limitations or issues with brining conventional or TMCC locomotives (thinking of taking out some of the classic NYC equipment, given the setting is perfect)?

Attended last year and had a fantastic time.  Looking forward to this again.

Trainstock Music Update:

When I first joined this Forum in November 2017, it dawned on me that Music and Model Trains are a wonderful combination, and I posted Forum topics about that.

Yesterday, that wonderful combination was reinforced. That is because I bought a sound system to amplify the music (mostly related to trains) that my wife and I will be performing on Saturday at Trainstock.

There are musician model railroaders out there who have extraordinary talent in both activities. I believe they are going to get a kick out of what I am about to say.

Like many of you Forum folks, I have an advanced O Gauge layout that I built, and have embellished and improved, over the past 25 years. (Those of you going to Trainstock for the 1st time will be stunned when you see how advanced and amazing the NJ Hirailers O Gauge and Standard Gauge layouts are.)

I used the same skills that I acquired by building and wiring my own advanced moderate-sized basement layout, to buy, unpack, study, organize, and label, the spaghetti bowl of sound system wires strewn about on my living room floor last night and early this morning.

What were those skills?

First, calling for help. My best Open Mic music friend (he is a brilliant retired trial lawyer who has hosted Open Mics for more than 10 years and had an advanced Lionel layout as a child), guided me over the phone, teaching me about the sound system equipment that I bought.

Secondly, getting on my hands and knees (I'm quite limber for a 72 year old), untangling the spaghetti bowl of sound system wires (that nearly caused my loving wife to faint last night when she came home from her acting class - LOL).

Approximately 3 years ago during the height of Covid, I spent 3 weeks on my hands and knees untangling, replacing, organizing and labeling my model railroad wires, and installing my DCS remote system guided by the Barry Boscowitz Bible.

Sound familiar?

Thirdly, overcoming anxiety. I struggle immensely with technology that triggers fears of possible failure, but usually manage to get positive results with hard work and more than a little help ftom my friends. When in the throes of it, I feel that I need to activate all of my brain cells to get good results.

Fourth, and this one will really resonate with you model railroaders and make you laugh, I prayed that my lovely talented wife will never find out how much money I spent on this sound system strewn about on our living room floor - LOL again and again!  I won't tell you how much I spent except to say that it is in the ball park of a Vision Line locomotive that I don't have, and believed I could never afford.

Finally, the feelings of satisfaction I now have, after overcoming my anxiety and fears, working you know what off, and admiring the organized and labelled wires for my first rate music sound system still set up on my living room floor, reminiscent of the DCS and model train layout wires under the train tables in my basement.

Again, music and model railroading - what a wonderful combination, and I can't wait to entertain you, my dear Forum friends who will be attending Trainstock at the NJ Hirailers on Saturday.

@bluelinec4

Sounds like the perfect test case for me to finish work on and bring along my LionChief over LoRa mod for my LC Booster/Repeater.

Should give a theoretical range of about 3 mi with the right antenna LOL.

My original LC BLE booster probably wouldn't cut it although it does allow the engine to continue running without a signal from the remote. (I hide the booster in a boxcar behind the loco).

I'll be coming along with the guys from TMB on long island. It'll be my first time visiting you guys and I'm excited to see the layout in person.
