I don't see why not.  Some transformers have fixed accessory voltage so it might go too fast for you.  If you wanted to be extra cautious, check the voltage with a voltmeter before using it to power your trolley.  I don't see how the transformer will know if it powering a motor in a trolley or in a crane or some other accessory.

 

I have thought about using Atlas's 80 watt transformer with adjustable accessory voltage to run 2 trains.

I'd say yes but, since the accessory posts on most transformers are fixed voltage, you would have no way to regulate the speed of the motorized unit.  One exception would be if you are using a CW-80 transformer.  The accessory post on these allows you to adjust the voltage, but not as easily as using the variable output with the throttle handle.

 

Your best bet would be to use a small transformer wired only to the track on which the motorized unit will be operated.
