Happy New Year Guys!
I haven't posted in a good while as I've been busy researching and building manufacturing processes to enable the build of my own modern rail cars and light rail cars starting in 2015.
I've also been participating with the Colorado O Scale Modelers (COSM) as an operational break in over the past year -- as Erik Lindgren has been so graciously showing you! Thanks man! : )
Some of you have approached me at these shows and asked about the status of Trinkle Trains O Scale car projects...So, I thought I'd break my posting silence
(not intentional, just lazy) and share with you the status of my first production run.
Trinkle Trains 1st production run of 5 Bay Ortner cars in Colorado Springs Department of Utilities (CSDU) livery are in final assembly in Black Forest Colorado! The prototype train ran from the 20 mile mine area of the Craig branch off of the Moffat Line in Colorado and was an exclusively Rio Grande contract from the 1980s until the mergers with the SP and UP when the contract transferred accordingly. BN/BNSF had many of the same 5 bay Ortner cars under various contracts out of Powder River's Orin line since the late 1980s. I have started on the Joint Line's most common train of Ortners, the Swindell Dressler SDEX prototype. The cars are in core car clean up and the decals are printing as of this writing. Shooting for May for the SDEX 1st run.
Both trains will be solid mainline features of my Joint Line "Denver Division" Layout this spring as well as on my final follow-on full size Joint Line Run in O Scale -- in the future in Black Forest. No other 5 bay Ortners had the Colorful Graphics on the side like the CSDU cars. Look them up on a favorite website of mine: http://www.actionroad.net My production photos are attached of the Internal and External coated sheet steel plating, the Aluminum undercarriage test integration and the Kadee coupler height testing. Of course -- I am THE ONLY customer for my cars -- I am doing runs of 25 cars at a time -- My final train length is currently set at 50 cars per train -- I will have mid/end train DPUs and/or manned helpers as appropriate for the road/era -- and I love them more each day as they come together! If you haven't considered building something fun that you want and that is not made ...please do it! It is a joy!! O Scale is a PERFECT Modeler's Scale!
I'm shooting for March for 1st Time - On Time - runs of the Joint Line's CSDU coal train (with Rio Grande Tunnel Motors at the Helm) on the Trinkle Train's Test Track and possibly a few Denver venues.
Thanks for letting me share with you what I'm doing in our hobby!
Look for more posts, website updates and a Youtube (tm) channel to form this Spring!!
