I have installed the Atlas turntable on my layout which can accommodate approx 20 storage tracks. I have room to use almost all of them. Wondering if a real life turntable would have had that many off shoot tracks? Any opinions out there?

^^Now THAT'S a round house!^^
Reminds me of the story "Tootle", where the engine is running around the full roundhouse on the track that goes around the roundhouse.

Sure. Plus it's your railroad...build what you like.....and then post pictures.

In the real railroad world, the tracks around a turntable that are outside of the actual roundhouse, are referred to as "garden tracks". Depending on how much room you have for your locomotive terminal, you should be able to make a complete circle of track around your turntable.
I counted 38 stalls in that roundhouse, plus the entrance track. Does that seem right? The problem with the Atlas roundhouse is that the stalls are wider than normal. So you can't get as many of them into a full circle. The Atlas turntable only stops at specific spots around the circumference and you can't stop it anywhere between the built in stops.

I have 19 tracks around my turntable for a total of about 130 degrees of coverage. I would put more in but space does not permit
Have a 34 inch Millhouse River Studio turntable with 46 tracks around it. Some quite short however. All powered and indexed with their terrific indexing system.
Eight going into the roundhouse and thirteen others.
I have a 3 stall and 4 tracks. Probably going to add a 5th track. I am trying to strike a balance with other scenery items in the area. Storing your steamers on the layout is very nice. Every time you take a loco on or off you risk damage.
This is the Fort Pitt Hi-Railers TT modules. (4) in the house and (4) more on the House side of the TT. (6) on the Y-module side of the TT.
thanks guys, great pics!!
