Got a CARE package from one of our Forum members yesterday. I'd been expecting a K-line switcher with issues, but got a nice bonus in addition:
One of the items was a "Wabash Cannonball" loco. I fired it up on the bench, and it ran and smoked, but the headlight wasn't working. I shrugged, said to myself, "OK, needs a new bulb" and popped it open. Huh. No bulb.
Well, this is why I keep wired 12V grain of wheat bulbs in my parts bin.
A bit of trimming on the lens, and let there be light!
While I was at it, I drove out the stub of the missing plastic bell and replaced it with a postwar repro whistle.
All lighted and ready to go!
Here's the K-Line MP15. The reverser is intermittent, and the paint job on the railings and steps is more enthusiastic than accurate. However, the motors seem to have been wired in series already, and the MP15 has a pleasant top speed. Did pop the shell and the DRCU seems to have a bit of corrosion here and there. I suspect there may be corrosion and/or bad solder joints underneath causing some of the problems, so future efforts will include pulling the DRCU and freshening the solder joints underneath.
Naturally, when Trains are involved, Norma Bates Kitteh is not far behind...
Smile pretty for the camera!
