I’m sure we have all had this happen finding some thing unexpected at a train show. Perhaps a rare locomotive or car. Does not have to be rare maybe just something you have always wanted. Or perhaps something else.

I've had lots of good finds at shows....and a few misses.
I found one seller with a bunch of Lionel 'Warhorse' N&W hoppers. No price on them so I usually pass....but this time I asked.....$5 each.....bought them all.
But I'd trade them for one of my misses......a AHM sealed Reno 4-4-0 kit......walked out the door as I was walking in......missed it by that much! I did get a Casey Jones kit for $10.....a little consolation prize!
Yep....one of the best for me was at this October's York...and here it is installed on the layout.....

I found a few surprising things I found out that Alex actually refrigerates his scenery material.
And I found this guy living under our layout.

So that's NOT parsley on the eggplant?!!
I found a 1947 (46?) #397 loader, yellow cover with the #70 yard light missing the belt, box and button at an antiques flea market for $20.00, but $18.00 if you paid cash. Also found an Indianapolis Power and Light hopper, printed on one side only at a local train store. Paid retail for that one.
A Sante Fe 1 to 1 Chief Drumhead. Unbelievable find.

Ben LOL
That was two years back, I've since been thrown out by the BOSS AKA the wife of that refrigerator. It is now used as a normal fridge.
Thanks
Alex
surely nothing rare or ultra valuable. But I do seem to find what I am looking for most times.I had picked up a Marx NYC passenger car, and had been looking for the other coach and the observation. Dad and I went to a show, and within the first few tables there were the two cars I needed, and at a great price.

My best deals ever!
Very nice find
Thanks. Found all this stuff at an estate auction.
The K-Line 21" cars were the original reason I went. It was quite a drive and a cold winter day. Worth it though, I got all the stuff pictured and more. Had the truck full and had to ship other items if that tells you anything.
It was a once in a lifetime event. The bidders were all collectors and I was surprised items were selling reasonable. I bought several NIB K-Line die cast cars for less than $10!
Below is the stuff I had to ship:

Nice
and I had been looking for a Marx Crossing Shanty, and there was one gathering dust at a local antique shop for over a year at $100(still there two years later). Found one at the same train show for $15 missing the crossing gate. Offered $10, and added a pair of Marx 428 gates I had.

Found a 1937 scale hudson at a garage sale and bought it for $175 Back in 1984. I did part it out eventually.
The money I made from it started my entry into scale 3 rail in the mid 90's.
Original Lionel D-165 Ferris Wheel display at a garage sale back in early 2011. Also picked up an original Girl's set and Electronic control set at the same sale. This opened pandora's box so to speak and I ended up purchasing a horde of other items. But it's all written in an article that will come out someday when I can tell the entire story. I highly doubt I will ever hit the jackpot like this again, but who knows...
