My 3017 sparked when running over a classic Flyer track trip, and blew the circuit fuse. It looked like the spark came from the trailing truck, or lead truck on the tender. In any case, I removed the track trip as a precaution and attempted to continue running the engine, but it would not respond to the commands from the Cab-1. I went through the engine reset sequence, and all seemed good. Shut down for the day, and when returned to run again, it was again unresponsive. Sometimes it will reset, but if I shut down, it takes a lot of attempts to get it to respond.

I have not removed the shell, and wouldn't know what I was looking at, or for, if I did. Thanks in advance for any insight.

Sorry if this is not the way to amend original post.

The challenger will run in conventional mode via transformer, with bell and whistle, but most times does not recognize signals from the CAB-1. As I noted in the original post, several times it has reset when I go through the sequence, but it loses it when shut down. I removed the shell, but did not find anything but a pinched wire from original assembly, but the insulation was not cut, so I assume that it is OK.

Surely there is someone out there who can guide me with some trouble shooting. Thanks again.
