I am currently operating DCS using a single TIU and it is working ok. I am trying to add a recently purchased TIU as TIU 2. When I do this using the handheld remote, I now can see the two TIU's. But if I turn off power to the newly added TIU, I still get only one blink of the red indicator light. So I now have two TIU's that blink once when powered off and on. Using the handheld, I am able to change the address of TIUI 2 to another number. But it still blinks like it is TIU 1. Also, I am unable to view the TIU version of TIU 2 nor can I go into DCS settings for TIU 2 to set the various outputs. This TIU has already been back to MTH service for this problem. My question is am I missing something here, and this is not a problem with the TIU? All comments are appreciated. Phil

Lights blinking when you turn them off don't mean anything.
Just power up the one you want as TIU #2, and then set it's ID as TIU #2. If you're getting one blink from each of them, that's a step you missed.
John: i did do what you suggest. Cut power to my TIU 1, applied power to new TIU and made it TIU 2. Both now show in the handheld. TiU 1 still works fine. But the only thing on the menu that seems to work is changing TIU 2’s address. Functions like DCS setup, and TIU version do not work. And TIU 2 never blinks twice. In my attempts to get TIU to respond, i did see a message pop up on the handheld about error in adding TIU. Almost too fast to read. Phil
Here's the procedure I have used successfully. It is from Barry's DCS book:
1) Delete TIU 2 from your remote to get back to where you were when the first TIU was working.
2) Power up just your new TIU and make sure that the red light blinks just once. (If it blinks more than once then STOP and check back before proceeding)
3) Disconnect/ turn off the new TIU and then Power up your original TIU. Check to make sure that the red light just blinks once. You should also check to make sure that it functions correctly at this point. (Again, STOP and check back if it blinks more than once)
3) Change the address of the original TIU to 2 using your remote (Menu, System, TIU setup, Edit TIU address, scroll/press thumbwheel to select TIU#1, scroll/press thumbwheel to select #2 as the new address). You should now have just your original TIU in the remote as TIU#2.
4) Leave your original TIU on and then connect/power up your new TIU.
5) Add this TIU to your remote with the following commands: Menu, System, TIU Setup, Add TIU, scroll/press thumbwheel to select TIU#1. The new TIU should now be in your remote as TIU#1.
I've just powered up only the one TIU and changed it's address to TIU #2, always works fine for me.
Remove all the TIU's from the remote except #1.
Power up ONLY the new TIU that you'd like to be TIU #2.
TIU setup, Change TIU Address, make it #2.
Power up the original #1 and #2, verify the blinks are right.
TIU setup Add TIU, and add #1.
I just did this on my test bench, works fine. The only reason this won't work is if something is amiss with the TIU's or remote. I prefer this method as if you have the original TIU wired in and want it to be TIU #1, the previous method changes it to TIU #2.
John: Thanks so much. I now have both TIU’s working. A few years ago i was operating 4 TIUs in Super mode. More recently I was using a single TIU for my mainline that has catenary since MTH has many nice electrics. My two other mainlines ran with Legacy. At October York, I purchased an MTH TIU/WIFI system to try out. It took me a while but i did get their wifi up and running, using both the handheld remote and my Ipad. The big surprise to me was how much better all my MTH engines ran! For this reason , I decided to add the second TIU and disconnect wifi and use only the handheld. Tomorrow I will start running MTH on a second mainline and see if Super Mode works as well on an additional mainline as the one TIU was doing for me. The jury is still out for me concerning their wifi. It seems complicated to combine both Wifi systems plus wifi coming from Lionel onboard cameras! Phil
