Oh, and the car is wrong, there are four holes in mine. Apparently the hole driller got lazy sometime during the production run. The center one only needs three holes, there isn't a hole for the top bar.
ok. I have 4 holes on the ends and 3 in the middle. If the white piece only needs 3 holes in the middle, sounds like the hole driller got over-excited with your car!
No, I lifted that piece off and there was no hole at the top, my mistake. But that piece is different than the other two pieces.
@AlanRail posted:this looked real enticing; then I thought, dont I already have a UP rocket train?
sure nuff' I have one! the MTH version. the trucks are painted yellow, there is a passenger crew car and UP engine too.
no clearance car or extra box cars though.
oh well!
Alan , are the MTH rocket car trucks articulated ?
I have replaced Lionel and William trucks with the MTH articulated trucks and have ended cars getting tilted and in some cases pulled off the rails.
I'm not sure what the Lionel rocket boxcars are like . I did have to do some modifications to fit the MTH articulateds.

Sadly, the Lionel boxcars have couplers fixed to the truck, a crappy design. In addition, the coupler knuckles close too tightly and cause issues. For some of the boxcars, you can't just open the couplers and have them latch as you bring the cars together, you have to manually lift the boxcar end and drop it into the adjacent mating coupler. I'm considering whether I replace the trucks or attempt to tune the couplers for better operation. Add to that the fact the boxcars are too light, and that's a major point of contention with the quality of this set.
