I am doing a demo for the Ford Model Railroad Club Tue and want to updated the Luci. I have a Apple mini 4 and safari will not down load the file from MTH to update the WIU. Can it be done and how please. My train club friend did it with Android since his computer would not work. 2. I have Windows 7 and follow the Accessing LuCi direction to the letter. I look up the wi fi networks and connect to the mth wiu one. When I enter the network security key with mthdcswifi I get windows was unable to connect to MTH_DCS-F6. Please help. Thanks Bruce

I have an iMac and use Safari. Just Control-click on the LuCI icon to download the file.

I don't understand. Are you using a Mac or are you using Windows?
It would be helpful if you stated exactly how "... follow the Accessing LuCi direction to the letter".
Barry I tried both the apple I pad and the windows 7 laptop with wifi to do the update. How do I get to the LuCI icon to Control-click on it. I am just starting to use Apple products so I am not up to speed on hao they work. Thanks Bruce
Bruce,
You really need to use a computer to do the update, not a phone or tablet.
You can use a Mac or Windows, whichever you prefer. Using a Mac to download the firmware update:
- Open Safari and paste this link into the url address line and then press ENTER:
- Fill out the form on the page and then click on "Go To Download Software Page" at the bottom
- On the next page, click open "DCS WIU Firmware Version 1.0"
- The firmware update will download to wherever your Safari downloads normally go.
To update the WIU's firmware:
- Disconnect all cables from your WIU (power, TIU, ENET).
- Set the MTH/HOME selector switch to MTH.
- Plug the WIU into an AC wall outlet.
- Navigate to see the available wireless networks to which your Mac can connect and connect to the MTH_DCS-XXXX. The network name is printed on the bottom of your module.
- When prompted, enter the network key mthdcswifi all lower case. The network key is also printed on the bottom of your WIU.
- Open Safari and enter the IP address 192.168.143.1 in the url address line. This is usually the top text box in your browser. This will open LuCI, the MTH DCS web interface.
- Enter the password mthdcs (all lower case) and hit enter. Do not change the username from ROOT.
- The home page of LuCI will be displayed.
- Select the SYSTEM tab near the top of the page.
- Select BACK-UP/FLASH FIRMWARE from the drop down list.
- Scroll down the page until you see FLASH NEW FIRMWARE IMAGE near the bottom of the page.
- Select BACK-UP/FLASH FIRMWARE from the drop down list.
- Scroll down the page until you see FLASH NEW FIRMWARE IMAGE near the bottom of the page.
- Wait until the file window closes (up to 15 seconds). Verify the filename selected is displayed next to the CHOOSE FILE button.
- Select FLASH IMAGE...
- When the FLASH FIRMWARE - VERIFY page is displayed, select the blue PROCEED button.
- You should now see the SYSTEM FLASHING SCREEN.
Wait at least 3 minutes for the flashing operation to complete, or until the WIU reboots and the LuCI login page reappears.
Now reconnect your WIU to your TIU in either HOME or MTH mode, and wait a few minutes while it stabilizes so that the PWR, TIU and WiFi LEDs calm on steady.
You're all done - run trains!
One place you do NOT want to follow the instructions. On page 9 of the wifi manual, paragraph 7 there is an error. Do not use as a password MTHDCS [upper case]. Use mthdcs [lower case]
Barry I followed you instructions - the same as in the Wi-Fi Dcs User's Guide. After step 5 I get error message [ windows was unable to connect to MTH_DCS-34F6 ] I am stuck here and do not know what to do. Thanks Bruce

Are you sure that you entered the correct network key (password), "mthdcswifi" all in lower case?
Barry yes and all lower case. Thanks Bruce
Bruce,
If you're entering the correct password and Windows won't find it, try using the Mac.
Barry I only have the Apple notebook no computer. Thanks bruce
Aclub member updated my WIU tonight with his Android tablet. I would still like to figure out how to use my laptop to do the update. Thanks bruce

Bruce,
I could not get mine past this step with an Apple ipad. I used an ethernet cable into my home router and was able to upgrade.
Dave
I have an iPad mini and had the same LuCi problems. I tried it on my desktop Windows 10 and it downloaded without a hitch. Running my HO trains with the iPad and/or remote without issue. Looking forward to new stuff (wifi) coming down the line.
The upgrade also ended when it was done. I did not have to wait 3 minutes.
One other note: The 'time out' error did not come up when reading engines but another error did. The error did not affect anything and everything works as it should.
