My son received ( about a year ago)a K-line Pacific Steam Engine 4-6-2 conventional 6-21223 US Army die cast (nice looking engine). Since we run dcs, we were thinking out loud and thought would it be possible to upgrade to a PS 2 so we could run it on our layout. Upgrade to a PS 2 with freight sounds? Possible not possible? Otherwise we were thinking of selling it. Worth the upgrade, not worth the upgrade? Ideas, thoughts, advise? thank you Mike

It should be upgradeable as long as it has a DC motor and a flywheel. G

And space in the tender for the required parts!
It was a pretty inexpensive locomotive, and it has no flywheel. This is not a candidate for a PS/2 upgrade.
This is the motor that this locomotive uses.

Upgrade it using the ERR Cruise Commander and Railsounds Commander, no flywheel needed.
He didn't mention having TMCC capability Bob, so I didn't suggest that. However, for a $119.99 retail set, I'm not sure I'd invest in $200 worth of upgrade parts anyway.
John,
It might be a stretch to put that kind of $$$ in the engine, but I can understand wanting to do it (like I did with my Railking RS3). I did my RS3 because it's already painted in Seaboard colors and I didn't want to buy the WBB Seaboard RS3 and have to upgrade it (or hope the paint job is accurate).
As we know, with DCS he can run TMCC just fine.
Actually, he has to have at least a TMCC command base to run TMCC with the DCS system.
I was researching to see if it had a flywheel this morning and I could not find it. Thanks for showing me. It was an inexpensive engine and I don't think I want to put that much money into it. I will list it on ebay or here after Christmas, and take that money and place it towards something else. This is why this a good forum. Thanks for everything guys
Probably a wise choice, you can buy a similar locomotive with PS/2 for a couple hundred if you keep your eyes open here or on eBay.

Oh yeah, so easy to forget once it's out of sight That'll add another $125 or so to the cost if it's bought from Lionel.
So now you're talking of $300+ to upgrade, wise decision not to do the upgrade if the engine doesn't mean that much.
Gentlemen,
As usual RunRunner has done his home work, selling the engine and purchasing a similar P2 engine is the way to go, unless he can find a P3 similar engine.
If you purchase a P2 engine, install a BCR prior to bringing the engine home.
If you purchase a P3, the BCR technology is built right into the engine design.

I do have the new legacy command base 1L 6-37156 hooked it up to my dcs. RunRunner offered good advise, selling the engine then getting something else that catches my eye.
