I would like to upgrade my K-line Scale Hudson with a ERR TMCC upgrade kit. Has anyone out there done this yet and if so what were your results??
Thanks Jeff

I did it a few years ago. The loco runs great with a cruise commander M.
Does your loco already have TMCC? If so, you need a Cruise M. If you do not have TMCC now, what you need is a Cruise Commander (not an M).
Hi Roy,
Yes, it does have TMCC now. I was on there website and figured I would in fact need the Cruise Commander M kit, thanks for the information. These are such great looking loco's!!
I have the K-Line scale hudson but I will upgrade it to proto 2. To me it is allot better then the ERR components. Sound is better and the smoke is well, MTH. It is such a nice engine it really deserves proto 2.
The Cruise Commander M is a piece of cake to install in an existing TMCC locomotive, the PS/2 kit will be a lot more work.
I have a K-Line Mikado with PS/2, I have to say it's a very nice conversion, but it's also a lot of work.
I do admit installing ps2 is more work but the results is allot better IMO.

Only if you actually have DCS on your layout.
I did the upgrade from TMCC to Cruise Commander M. Went well. I bought everything from Boxcar Bill at Modern Train Parts. I hit a snag and called Bill, he talked me through it easily. Bill has great prices and knows hs stuff.
Thanks for all of the info guys!!

And you're not using Legacy.
Personally, even if you have Legacy, the drawback to the TMCC/ERR conversion is the 2 chuffs per (fixable) and the (by today's standards) very dated sounds and smoke. Unless Legacy sound and control becomes available. I'm with David1 here - PS2 is the best option.
Even if you don't have DCS, you can get good sound, cruise, and great smoke with PS2 running conventionally!
These steamers are too nice to go halfway with...
....I would also bet that most people that run command have both systems.
I'm no expert, but based on my experience around here (and I suspect most places), this isn't true at all. Virtually all the people I know (including me) run one system or the other. There's lots of additional expense and complication in setting up and running both systems, and for the most part, from what I've seen, only hardcore, high dollar train hobbiests with large layouts run both systems.

You may be right about that. Still, for me, lack of command control trumps somewhat improved sound, cruise and smoke, so I wouldn't spend the significant money and effort to convert the engine to DCS to operate it conventionally. But that's just me. Regardless, it's nice to have all these options available to chose from.
I'd also be amazed if "most" people had both TMCC/Legacy and DCS systems. Sure, lots of folks do, but I doubt it's "most".
Maybe time for a poll? How do you control your trains
