I've had this happen before going back to an earlier version of the software....Remote went blank.
The fix.. reload the remote again and after if it's still blank, start pressing keys. any keys and you may get screen back. Yes I know it's crazy talk but it worked for me.
hello gregg. thanks for the info. however, i can't get the program to upgrade again. when it says press and hold the power button, i hold it then it says release it and it keeps doing this forever. thanks anyway.
We have 8 remotes and most didn't load the software the first time trying. We had to back and start over a number of times by.... cycling tiu power exiting the loader . Eventually it'll go. Yep! frustrating.
In your case remove a battery and reinstall to make sure the remote is in the "off" position at the beginning.
Do you have another remote? If so, using that remote as reference do a reset on remote in the blind. Pressing keys based on the sequence the good remote displays. G
I've sen this happen twice. Both times, when left alone for a few days, the remote came back to life. Then it was re-updated with DCS 5.0.
Alternately, you could attempt a "blind reset" of the problem remote as GGG suggest above. Preferably this is performed while having a good remote from which to "echo" commands:
- Remove a battery from the problem remote for a few seconds to ensure that it's truly off.
- Replace the battery in the problem remote.
- Press and hold the power button on the problem remote for 3 seconds and then release it.
- Wait 30 seconds.
- On the working remote, follow the steps to go through the DCS Menus to get to System/Remote Setup/Reset Remote. DO NOT RESET THE WORKING REMOTE.
- As you enter the commands on the working remote, also carefully enter them on the problem remote.
- Press the thumbwheel twice on the problem remote to, hopefully, reset it.
Good luck!
thank you both for your suggestions. i don't have another remote but i will wait a few days and remove batteries to see if this comes back to life. thanks again.
FWIW, even when I know the remote button is properly pressed, I get the press/release cycle a time or two for an update. I figure there's some sort of secret timing sequence that we're violating, I've never figured why it happens. Some remotes seem a lot more fussy than others when trying to do the update.

That's for sure. It took me five attempts with one of my remotes when upgrading to 5.0 . Finally it took, and I held that button down like nobody's business.
I don't hold the button down nowadays, I use a little custom clamp. I put a dimple on a spring clamp to hold the button down, it lives in my DCS upgrade kit. I get quite a few of these to update, and sitting there with a cramp in my thumb for six or seven minutes is a PITA.
I've had this happen to me and it turned out all it was, was the screen contrast was turned all the way down, after the upgrade was completed. You may be able to see the screen (hardly visible) if you look at it on an angle. If you can make anything out, go to screen contrast and turn it up. Menu/System/ LCD Contrast/ scroll thumb wheel to increase.
Excellent idea. All I Know is, I though MTH was trying to give my thumb an aerobic workout with the constant "hold button/release button" cycle, over and over and over and over and over and ov......
There is variability in how hard you have to press the button to power on/off, and if you lose your grip at all, you get to start all over.
