Bought a black module and was able to upgrade the Cab quite easily to 1.51 or whatever was on the website Saturday. I then used same black module to create a base module and tried to update it to no avail. Could not get the Lionel lights to flash. What are the consequences of not having an updated base unit? Anyone else have this problem? I know the charger function does not work in mine but that should not be a problem. I tired it with charger set to on and off and with the Cab unit on and off all to no avail.

I would try to recreate the base module again
Are you holding the button on the underside as you power it up?
Does the center yellow LED light up and then do you release the button?
Make sure you are following each step http://www.martye.com/TipsandT...duleform11042008.pdf
Tried again this morning and none of the flashing lights etc... that was supposed to happen happened but it now says 1.51 on Cab and Base so cool! I wish Lionel would package the thing with a USB instead of COM port. My thought is , the easier to use and update, the more folks will not shy away from it. Hardest part was finding a working com adapter I eventually gave that up and dragged the system into work where my PC has a COM port and did it no problem!
Ed I had the same problem on one of my bases. The lights do flash but they're so dim and quick that you don't notice them. I tried several times thinking it wasn't done. I like you then looked at the version and it said 1.51. The lights on the other base visibly flash but the second was does not. Put a little reminder on the bottom of the base to check the version number after it seems to be done for the next time.
