Want to upgrade my TIU. I know I need to connect my laptop to the TIU and will buy appropriate cable but do I need a stereo cable also? I saw a video on YouTube where someone used this cable additionally. Also do I need to disconnect the TIU from my tracks during download?

thanks for the help!

Yes, the stereo cable is required to upgrade the TIU. I believe it is recommended to disconnect all of the TIU outputs (from the tracks) which I do as my TIU is easily accessed and the wires are labeled. I am also thinking that I've read here somewhere that some folks have reported success without disconnecting. Maybe Barry will be along to clarify this one.

I would also highly recommend Barry's book, The DCS Companion, if you don't already have it. Lots of great information in there that is not available elsewhere, a great DCS reference. It's available from the OGR online store.

It's necessary only to remove the cables in the TIU's ProtoCast, ProtoDispatch and either the serial port or (Rev. L only) USB port when upgrading the TIU.
