Using Cab1L with an engine that the directions relate to a Cab 2

In the past I was able to use cab 1L with the newer engines. I just received the Lionel Lehigh Gorge set. The directions start out “On your Cab 2 “ then press engine # and start. Nothing happens. The only other direction are for the original TMCC. They don’t work either. The engine does run with Lionel Chief. Has anyone else experienced this?
