I have several locos which I have added PS-2 3V boards to as upgrades and replacements and need to change the sound sets. Before I get started I was wondering if anyone on the forum has used a DB9 serial cable to USB for connecting their TIU to a computer. I have an Alps Printer and they are very sensitive to the cable you use to convert to USB and I am looking for some advice as to what cables might be suitable for our MTH TIUs. In looking around I did notice that some of the cables had circuitry in the connectors and some did not but those had a software disc to install. Any insights will be appreciated. j

A standard USB - to - RS-232 (DB-9) cable from your local electronics store should work fine. You may need to download the drivers from the manufacturers website though for functionality.
John, I use a Sabrent brand cable I got from that certain shopping site ……12 bucks to my door,…..hasn’t let me down yet,…

Yeah I use that site... I mean that Amazon site for lots of cable purchases that aren't readily available locally.
If you are using Windows 11 make sure the cable is Windows 11 compatible. I had to purchase a new cable because of that fact.

About 90% or more of these cables use a generic FTDI chipset and built-in drivers provided with Windows 11 should work without issue.
