I have wired a 22 Volt DC power unit to my TIU using the Fixed 1 input.  I have wired the track to Variable 1 output.

I then pressed the TR button and chose TIU1 VAR1, and I don't get current to the track.

If I wire the track to Fixed 1 OUT there is current, but I want Variable current.

What did I do wrong?

I am looking to run a conventional DC current 2 rail engine.

First, in order to get power  out of a channel, you must put power into thaqt channel.

Second, in order to get any channel to operate trains under DCS, you must provide power for the TIU Itself to operate its signal generators, This can come from either Fixed #1 Input or the TIU's Aux. Power port.

Third, the Variable Channels can only work, in variable mode, with AC voltage. You would have to input AC to the variable channel and then rectify the channel's output to DC.

Thanks Barry, I have both the electronic and hardcopy of your book.  Unfortunately, I have misplaced the hard copy and am trying Windows 8, which made me loose the electronic version.

So Third answers my question, again thank you, I won't have to waist any more time with it for now.

I can't wait to light these bad boys up!

Lee,

Is it possible to have the Z4000 (The one I use) wired into the TIU in such a manner that either Conventional or DCS methods may work on demand (Not at the same time) without having to rewire everything?

Yes, it is.

All that's necessary is to turn off the DCS signal when running conventionally and then turn it back on to run under DCS. The following should be done while track power is off:

  • To run conventionally, press Menu/System/DCS Setup and then soft key AOF
  • To run under DCS, press Menu/System/DCS Setup and then soft key AON
