This is my first attempt at posting a video shot with my IPhone 6.  The General was a premium fare all Pullman train between New York and Chicago second only to The Broadway Limited on the PRR.  As car builders delivered new equipment for the 48 Broadway the prewar Broadway cars went to the shops for interior refurbishing and the new postwar 3 strip paint scheme.  Many of these cars were assigned to The General.  My consist includes a number of 38 Broadway passenger cars (imported by Sunset in the 1980's) that were detailed by Dan Pantera's Calumet Shops. I had Dan partially de-skirt the car bodies so they would look as the prototype did in the 1952.  Other cars in the consist include a Mac Shops Budd 21 roomette, a 12 roomette/5 bedroom (duplex)sleeper, and a D85 twin diner.  The last 3 cars were built by Dan using brass sides punched by Dick Bregler.  At the front of the train is a transcontinental 10/6 sleeper (AtlasO) which will be handed off to the California Zephyr in Chicago.

John - the BM70ka in the video is a Precision Scale model that will someday be replaced by a 1980's vintage Sunset BM70n that has been in my paint shop for a long time.  It may be interesting to SPF's that PSC's  BM70ka model has 4 baggage doors, while Golden Gate Depot's  nice BM70ka has 2,  The models are prototypically correct as the Pennsy had both types carrying the same class designation.

You are right Chris - the PSC BM70 and B70 cars have roofs which are flatter than prototype.  Interestingly the PSC  air conditioned P70 coaches have the right profile -  but totally wrong roof vents.  Go figure!  One of my bucket list items is to revise the details on my PSC P70's.   Until those P70's are detailed and painted I have been running GGD P70's as stand ins.

Want to talk PSC roofline issues check out a PSC 8 section buffet lounge solarium with ac,{Club Series}   I think it was a generic roof blank as have been unable to find any photos to back up the one on the car.  All the keystone pics in their article show a completely different ac duct configuration. Any thoughts on this o PRR gurus??terrys stuff multi crap 006terrys stuff multi crap 002

The PSC car attempts to model a Pullman plan 3989 8 section 8 section, Buffet,  Sun Room Observation .    Distinctive spotting features of the prototype are  the extra wide clearstory section on the roof and a pair of tall windows in the sun room.   In a string of heavyweight air conditioned these  cars were easy to spot by the unusual contour on their roof top air conditioning ducts  (more angular than  rounded sides).  The PSC incorrectly modeled the car with a standard Pullman (narrow) clearstory roof.  Comparing the model with photos of the prototype it also appears that the proportions of the sun room windows are off - possibly a little too wide.

The PRR purchased 10 plan 3989 cars from Pullman after WWII.  Photos of Union League Club and several other 3989 cars can be found in Liljestrand's Pennsylvania Parlor Cars soft cover book.  The model has mechanical AC gear while all PRR plan 3989 cars had ice activated air  conditioning gear (large ice bunkers under the sides of the car).  I could fix the AC details and maybe the windows, but replacing the roof was something  I didn't want to tackle so I sold my PSC 3989 on eBay years ago.

If you want a accurate O scale PRR plan 3989 car look for an  American Standard Car Co. kit or built up model.  Unfortunately the kit was offered late in the company's existence and is hard to find.  If one is extremely lucky perhaps a Joe Fischer custom built plan 3989 car will surface for sale one day - but be prepared for a bidding war!
