Hello everyone,
Here's a brand new Lionel Niagara with 4 chuffs and GRJ's Super Chuffer with a completely rebuild 27 OHM smoke unit.
Engine looks so much more realistic, with the Super Chuffer installed.
Thanks for looking,
Alex

+1 !
I can't wait to wrap up mine!
Great work Alex. I just got finished doing a driveshaft on that model engine. Not a great design. Modifying one like you did is a good way to go. That big engine from the factory with only 2 chuffs does not cut it. Anyone who has that engine should contact you to bring it up to speed. For now, I am keeping my MTH Niagara but have fingers crossed that Lionel will bring it out in Legacy with whistle steam.
Great video.
Looks great Alex, I've been wanting to upgrade mine with Super Chuffer and the optic chuff trigger(if that's the right term) and need to change out the driveline too.
Doug
Very nice!
That sounds like the same sounds in my Sunset M1 w/ TMCC?
I always put that one running around the tree. I can't run smoke or my alarms go off. The grandkids love the whistle.
Huge improvement... that's how they should be.
Looks and sounds good Alex, great improvement.
That looks great Alex. You sure do wonders to these older locomotives.
Good work Alex. Big difference with 4 chuffs. Thats on my to do list as soon as I find some suitable replacement gears.
Pete
The Niagara looks and sounds great! The new smoke unit puts out a very good amount of smoke.

Very cool!

Awesome WELL DONE ALEX!!!!
Very nice Alex!

Really nice work, Alex. looks and sounds great - wish it were mine and I had the room needed to run it. Btw, based on the amount of smoke while idling can we assume gunrunnerjohn's original Super-Chuffer was installed or did you use his new Super-Chuffer with the Smoke Idle Enhancement and that it smokes so voluminously there's still that much smoke while idling?
Can't wait to get it back and hook up the 15 milk cars I have a spin it around the layout. Great Work Alex.
Thank you all for the very kind comments!!!!!
Marty, I'm so hoping that Lionel makes this engine in Legacy with whistle steam!!!
M.J, I didn't do any mods to the driveshaft or gears, I checked the entire drive line and it seems to be in good shape. So we will leave it as is for now, can only hope it lasts.
ogaugeguy, this super-chuffer is the original install.
Thanks again,
Alex

Thanks for the fyi / reply, Alex. Much appreciated!
Wow Alex,
It smokes better then the MTH versions of the NYC Niagara. Now my questons is this:
For those of us who have the "Alex" version 1.0 up grade on our Lionel NYC Niagara, can we expect a discount if we choose to purchase the "Alex" version 2.0 Niagara upgrade???
As alway Alex, very nice work.
This past weekend I was able to run the Pennsy J3 you recently upgraded for me. She smokes, runs and sounds great.
Thanks,
Richard
Very cool, Alex

Richard, I have both Lionel and MTH engines. The MTH is a super smoker out of the box with the two heating elements. TMCC guys should count themselves lucky John designed his product and Alex does the 4 chuff conversion. I have seen these converted engines and the conversion does work well. As stated before, many of us will do back flips if Lionel brings that engine back in full blown Legacy with all the upgrades. I have a buyer for my Lionel Niagara and will keep the MTH until it is announced in Legacy.
No, I do not have any inside information this will be made in Legacy. It never hurts for any of us to keep throwing this out. Lionel does listen.
