My wife and I visited earlier this year and I had a terrific time.   Really enjoyed the layout and had a excellent time talking to Tom Jr. as he was running the layout.   Tom Jr. said that an expansion was in the works and it's good to see that it is under way.

Today I finally made a visit to Corner Field Model Railroad Museum and Hobby in Middlefield, Ohio.  I had planned to go sometime this summer. Then I was invited to join the Great Lakes TCA on a group trip along with the Massilon, Ohio Model Railroad Club.  We first gathered at nearby Mary Yoder's Amish Kitchen for lunch.  I was pleasantly surprised to see about 40 O gauge enthusiasts had gathered together.  After a hearty meal and good conversation we headed over to Corner Field.  As usual, photographs speak 1000 words, but you can't beat seeing something in person.  Tom and his wife were in the store, and Tom Jr. had all the trains running in fine fashion!  I had great conversation with all of them as well.  What a great place they have built, and the space is already under roof for a 50-foot expansion.  Here are a few photographs!  Well worth the trip indeed!!  It is right off US Rt 322.

Mark great pics! That's a lot of trains and looks like it was very fun to watch. One reason why I miss living up north and Ohio.

We will be doing a full photo feature of Tom's (and family) fine layout in a future issue of the magazine. I'm also looking forward to visiting there in advance of the photo session since it's not a far drive.

Does anyone know how long this has been there.  I left the Buckeye in 78 but do not recall knowing about this.

I was glad to post some photographs for everyone here! 

Ron, they just opened in the last year or so.  It is in a new metal building and very new layout construction.

Great pictures Mark - last year, after York we delivered one of our Denver Union Stations to Tom... love seeing it in your pictures. So glad to hear there will be an upcoming article about this museum - Traintastic Fun!

Brian, Yes I was partway to you and Clem's for sure!!  Maybe I can make it "out west" in another year when I'm not so busy with extended family care and other matters.  

Dorcie, Tom Sr. told me about TW TrainWorx building and delivering the Denver Union Station!!  It is really grand!  The departure tracks all setup with trains really added to the great scene the Station made.  Excellent!!!

Thaddeus, I see from your profile you live in Port Clinton!  My wife's family used to vacation at Lakeside when she was growing up.  I've been there 3 or 4 times myself, so I recognized Port Clinton right away.  Yes, most defiantly Corner Field would make a great day trip for you and the kids!  They will love it!.  One thing I noticed that is cool for kids, depending on their size, they can get a great view looking through the Plexiglas of all the trains and details under the elevated line that I had to bend down to see.  There are also stools for the little ones.  Since I have some knee problems, I didn't bend down to see the whole other world very much.  Also, they have scads of cool operating accessories with push button on the fascia with large readable signs to tell the kids what will happen when they push the button!  They did a great job on that!!!

Yes, the building is complete on the exterior.  Inside the far wall of the layout room is wood covered with black plastic for now.  You can see it in this photograph.

My wife and I went there  yesterday.  Great people, great layout!!  My wife (who's not a train fan) went around the layout THREE times, as she discovered more and more detail that intrigued her. 

I enjoyed talking with Tom Elesh and his wife Vicki. Tom Jr. (who wired the layout) was a help to me on signals, and daughter Ashley does a great job of showing visitors around.

We live just about 30 minutes north of there- in Perry OH, so you can bet we'll be going back, and taking friends and grandchildren.

Mike, I'm glad you and your wife were able to make a visit!  That's great your wife enjoyed it so much!  It is excellent you lice so close and can take your grandchildren and others!

Tom's description is "Here is video & pictures of B&O Baltimore & Ohio 1 Williams Powered & 1 Williams Non-Powered E7's Pulling A Total of 50 Freight Cars Which Is 212 Axles. This train is running on our Museum Display (Layout) at Corner Field Model Railroad Museum & Hobby Shop." "1 unit was only powered and the other a dummy non-powered pulling 50 freight cars. So actually counting because the 2nd unit is a dummy, it's actually 51."

Spectacular layout.    One question: what is the derivative of the name "Corner Field Hobby"? 

Hot Water, I believe because the building is in the back of a field with a baseball field in front.  It is also near a crossroads, so that may come into play too.

Four of us just drove from the Detroit area to see this spectacular layout located in the middle of Amish country.
